Default Checking out an ITR shell: I need advise

update

It turns out that the guy is very firm on the price. I didn't want to give him a hard time, so i just decided to keep looking. LUCKILY, a member on HT had offered to sell me a bare 2001 ITR shell. Heres a pic. The body is straight, and it has a repairable-title which means i am allowed to drive it, and its not just a "parts" car. This shell is salvage due to theft, the frame is straight everything is alligned. We finally agreed on a price, but will be kept between him and I until the transaction is completed. Thanks for the help you guys, there will soon be another "ITR project" thread in this forum..
***i can't comprehend this feeling that i have right now, knowing im so close to owning my very own R..i've dreamed of this moment since 1996*** Cheesy i know, but i don't care right now

here are the pics

heres an old pic of the (before the 98 front end) doner.

its probably going to cost you around $12000 to finish the car up and make it complete, but thats only if you do all the labor and put the motor in yourself. $12000 seems like a pretty good deal for that car even if it is salvaged. A clean one would go for 15-16

$4000 drivetrain
~$900 interior
~$900 five lug? not sure how much it is
and some rims for like 300.

Don't forget. Its probably not registered., so you're going to have to go to CHP for a VIN inspection. That means there better be receipts for all this purchase. Plus that door with the front-end looks like a bad blend job. I say save your money for a complete R.

The shell is pretty clean. depending on your state, U may have a problem getting it inpected with the JDM front. The salvage inpection sites usually require vin tags on all body parts and jdm parts don't have vin tags on it. YOu may have to change the front end. Anything that u will replace on this car requires a reciept. U can also buy another integra cheap and use that car for parts. U'll be able to use that title as proof. If don't have a lot of cash i wouldn't worried about 5 lug, itr seats and itr engine right now. Just use the 4lugs, throw some bs integra seats and throw a cheap *** ls engine to pass salvage inpection. Read my links and im if you have any questions ..... I'll offer him about 5000 for that car. In my opinion its worth $6k because of a clean *** body, jdm front and other parts that still there..

Yes, that shell is very clean

Go take a look at it, make sure the paint on the JDM front matches the rest of the body pretty well, make sure there isn't any rust or water damage inside, lift up the carped in the trunk mats, make sure there isn't any bad smells or any visable rust in the under body.

5-6k seems like a good price, with the entire dash and steering wheel intact.

I don't see why there would be a problem getting it registered, just make sure the vin on the window sill somes up as a USDM integra type R and you should be OK
(Although, I don't know that for sure if the title is salvaged)

Has anyone in the norcal area ever had a problem with registering an ITR shell with the JDM front? I don't think the guy has a vin for the front end so would i need to put the USDM front on befoe i get it inspected if its not registered? Also, i would buy a complete R, but im really shrot on cash. Personally, i think an R shell would be best for me at this time of my life. I already have a donor for all the parts to put on the shell, and it would be more of MY personal R since im going to rebuild it myself. The paint isn't a big deal, if everything goes well, i will prep it up for a paint job asap...

Is it a salvage or rebuilt title? If it's a normal title you will have no problems registering it (according to Ohio, I don't know about Cal) My friend bought an ls with a JDM front end and there were no problems getting it plated and on the road.

Well u're good then . No ifs or buts, u will have a problem registering with the jdm front. I'm doing a itr shell restore right now. Jdm parts don't come with vin numbers. All the body parts like the fenders, hood, bumpers must have vins on it. Just throw your gsr on the car. You should be about to get 5 lugs all day for about $1000. Do not put the five lug on the car though, just use the 4 lug for inpection. The 5 lug is most likely on the insurance estimate. The only way u can use 5 lug is with a receipt from a dealership or reciept from a junk yard with vins from a itr that was salvage. For $5k the car is not a bad price. The body seems in excellent condition with doors intact, cluster, jdm front, air bags and other major componenst.

how a link for u ...

$12k is a bit high I would say.. it is doable for a lot less if you're doing all the labor yourself.. the salvage title is what would scare me away.. the car is worth a lot less with that..

Don't think you'll find a deal like I got, but for reference I got a 00 PY ITR, 53k mileage. The car was totalled by the Ins. company. I replaced the rad support, headlights, front bumper, hood and a few other parts in the front end. The interior was the cleanest I'd had ever seen in person and the engine (though not the original one) had 10k on it due to a hydro lock. I got the entire car, engine, body, interior basically a wrecked car for 6k. Keep your eyes open, check here, ITRCA.com and autotrader.com Keep looking, there's always a seller looking for a buyer for everything. GL in your search/build.

i would have to agree with Mark.

im almost done rebuilding my R which i bought for dirt cheap without certain parts and ive spend less than 10g's on it and i have a lot of hard to find JDM parts.

IMO, 6000 is way too much for taht shell even with a JDM front end and being around the area i have heard taht salvage titles are a pain the butt to get registered. i dont personally know about JDM front ends but with the price it seems very unreasonable. no way in hell would i pay that much for a car in that condiiton. <TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by mstewar &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">

another thing i would agree with Dave_B cuz it took me like 2 yrs of waiting to find a good deal and boy was it worth it i got my shell for a couple HUNDRED dollars.

Is there an asking price on the PY R? Or you're just gonna throw him an offer, because I've seen ITR shells go for at least $1500..... That car looks like the one from the dallas,TX insurance auction
