I think he means go wif the LS motor for turbo and that VTEC isn't any good within the higher HP ranges. Not something I would say, but I think that's what he's saying.

in high horsepower applications, vtec, becomes useless, or not as efficient. just like vvt-i in supra's, they get rid of that function, because actually hinders the cars performance with the adjusted fuel ratio, when the vvt-i or vtec kicks in. cost effective wise, take a b16 and turbo it, or just go with a cheaper b18b, turbo it, or perhaps build it up a little bit with the money you save from not using a b16. besides, b18b has more torque on the bottom end anyways.
if you wish to have vtec and turbo, go with a b18c series, since it puts out more power/torque than a b16.
so yeah, vtec would be pretty much useless if the OP wanted to build up a higher HP application. but hey he wanted opinions right? and he asked about honda engines and turbo in general also right? so i gave my opinion to him.

basic engine would be better to learn on would be an LS or zc or whatever stock motor he has at first anyways.

hahaha yea all the pro's use ls motors cause b16 & b18c1 or 5's or ls/vtecs suck because they have vtec sure right hahahahaha

next you are going to tell me that an ls head can out flow a b16/type r or gsr head lol

and he ASKED ABOUT A B16! not an ls but you did read the first post right?

thats why the 'pro's use vtec killer cams etc. etc. right? and he still asked about honda motors 'IN GENERAL' so... costwise, yes, go with an LS or stock motor. convert to b16/b18c series later, you'll already have the turbo kit and already have experience tuning it. cheaper, and still ahve your fun. besides, you can get new LS blocks for like 300 bucks if you look around, yet again, a lot cheaper than a vtec series motor. turn around and LS-vtec it if you want to, STILL cheaper than the b16/b18c series stuff. HAH lololol

why not cr-vtec or b20-vtec??? just kidding. stick with the b16 complete swa[ plan it is well worth the money, i know it doesent sound so impressive to have a kigh14 to mid 15 sec car but once that turbo is on you will be at the 250+ hp if you want. i heard they made up to 350 on a stock b16 and actually kept it for a while. remember. tuning tuning tuning is the key. tune it right and theres your reliability
