Default 1996 Prelude tranny...rebuild?

Well, I own a 96 Prelude usdm h22a, about 110K miles on it.

After succesfully driving the **** out of the car, I have lost 1st, 3rd, and 5th gear.
We thought it was a clutch problem....but how can it be the clutch and only effect those three gears?

So....should I have the tranny rebuilt? Is it really worth it? Should I get a different tranny and have it installed?

Basically, I have a thousand dollars to go for it. What do you think my best option is here? Are there badass aftermarket transmissions for the h22? If not, maybe a badass rebuild kit with hardened gears and such?

If you had a $1,000 to blow on transmission...what route would you take?

Think I can pick up the tranny and have it installed for 1000 bucks though?

Sounds like a cable problem for sure. You likely split the outer plastic covering of the cable and its binding at that spot now.

Does it feel somewhat mushy when you try and go in 1/3/5?

its hydro, not cable.

as far as symptoms.....

without hittin the clutch, i move it to first gear, depress the clutch, but first gear wont accept.

release clutch, move to second

depress clutch, you feel the transmission link up and second gear is engaged

depress and move to third, nothing.

double clutching has no effect

your 96 prelude is cable, that hydro means hydraulic clutch

your cables need to be replaced....thats why its only 1,3, and 5 that are bad

True...I probably have no idea what I'm talking about.

Remove the clips, plastic and metal washers from the linkages where they attach to the transmission and shift the large arm coming off the transmission by hand. I bet it works perfectly.

Well, the local boys want 900 bucks to rebuild it. I'd rather not go that route.

I tried finding these "Cables" but couldn't. I think I may have some messed up linkages or something. Something weird has to be causing it only to be losing 1st 3rd and 5th. And it happened almost out of nowhere. One day it was great, next minute I leave from a stop light and its all gay.

Take your intake off and you will be able to see them. I'd almost bet it is cracked right where it turns to head to the transmission, right after where it is bolted to the crossmember.
