Default Engine question(s)

Alright, here's my situation:

I'm currently running an 89 CRX Si with a ZC DOHC that is start to die.. quickly.

Of course, I hadn't planned on it happening just yet, but I was expecting it as there is a cross threaded spark plug (didn't know until the engine was already in ) and then the anti freeze started magically disappearing (head gasket I believe)

So, I figure I have about $1,500 to spend on a new engine (including the cost to install the engine since I'm not entire mechanically inclined, nor do I have the proper equipment).

Now I've started doing some research, and a B16a is out of the question (engine + mounts + axles + installation = more than I can afford at this time)

My next idea was a ZC w/ VTEC, but as I'm starting to find out, or I'm just a moron, I believe they don't make them?

I was looking at a D15B 1.5 VTEC, since they go for roughly $500 after taxes, shipping, etc. My questions are

1.) What is the HP these things have
2.) Do they bolt right into the engine bay without mods/motor mounts
3.) Do I need to get a tranny for it, or will the CRX Si Tranny/Integra ECU work with it, or will I need to order it with the tranny + ecu?

Any information will be of great help.

Thanks

Default Re: Engine question(s) (dra600n)

since your already setup with mpfi, you can EASILY do another d series swap for less than $1000.

for the zc vtec, ive never heard of anything like that, as far as i know the zc is a one of a kind motor. But i havent researched d series in a while

horsepower for a d15b vtec is ruffly 130@ ? rpm to the crank

yes it will bolt right in

the si transmission will bolt up to it. Pretty sure any d series transmission besides the one that came with the zc will bolt up to it. 90% positive its 89-91 d series are all good to go, but the 88 is the other one of a kind.

the ecu, either a p08 or a p28 will work

Alright, thanks for the information. Is there any noticable difference between the D15B VTEC and the ZC DOHC? Which in your opinion is better?

Thanks
