Default Attention Midwest Drag Racers IMSM Racing Series Finals Oct 22nd at Byron dragway Byron IL

Attention Drag Racers, My name is Ross Lamont I am Co-Director of the IMSM Racing Series that races out at Byron Dragway in Byron IL. This series is in its second year of racing and has grown to be one the most competitive racing series out there. in 2005 we only had 3 bracket classes but with so many racers competing the need for extra classes was a must. We now have 8 classes with 2 bracket racing classes and 6 heads up index classes. It dont matter what you drive or how fast or slow you car is, there is a place for you to race and we would love to have you come out and get a taste of a series that is hoping to grow and expand.

At this current time the classes are as follows
Street Fighter- Basic Bracket Racing 13.00-slower anything goes for what you have
Street Warrior- Bracket Racing 10.00-13.99
Street Intimidator- Heads up 12.50 index on a D.O.T tire Pro .400
Street Avenger- Heads up 10.50 index Pro.400
Street Heat- Heads up No power adder Pro .400
Street Dominator- heads up Power adder Pro .400
Street Compact- Heads up 11.50 Index Pro .400 FWD cars=slicks RWD/AWD=D.O.T tires only. Rules are based off of the SFWD class
Pro Eliminator- Heads up where the big dogs roll
Pro Compact- Heads up for Sport Compacts running 11.50 or faster.

The compact Classes are simple with rules. Street Compact FWD cars are the only ones allowed slicks just to keep it close between a AWD or a RWD car. Motor swaps allowed with one power adder. Full Class rules are in the Street Compact section or our forums at http://www.imsmracingseries.com
Pro Compact is pretty much anything goes are far as what you bring to the class. You can have a RWD Civic with a a 2JZ motor in it, I dont care it is run what you brung. There is no one competing in this class so a championship is still up for grabs and could be one in just this one race.

Race 6 is our final race of the year and 2007 the series is in talks to expanding to Cordova IL, Ceder Falls IA, Union Gorve WI, and US 41 IN. Along with the series home track in Byron IL.

RACE 6 DYNOTUNEMP NATIONALS BYRON DRAGWAY BYRON IL

Once again thanks to Mike Post and Corey Simpson of DynotuneMP (www.dynotunemp.com) for all of their support this season and making the final race something special. Take a look below at what they have to offer for the finals...

Contingency:
1 full hour of dyno time to each winner and $75 off a SCT Excal. or Diablo Predator Tuner or chip.

More information to come, and if all goes well we might have a little surprise for everyone that day. Keep your fingers crossed.

Thanks, IMSM Staff

Please feel free to ask any questions you have regarding the series.

Thanks
Ross

Post more in fo on Pro-Compact
Whatever your Quickest heads up racers with a .400 tree would run.

What is the payout for the class and championship?

We have never ran at byron, what is the shutdown like? Does it have wide turnoffs so a FWD with big tires can turn alright.

Propably not any worse than US41 or GLD we have ran at both.

it all depends on how many racers show up to run Pro Compact. As of this year no one has entered this class so if you could ralley up some cars or if anyone here in the midwest has a car they are willing to race on the 22nd the more money will be rewarded at the end of the race. As for the quickest times no one has ran yet.

As for championship payout we are tyring to get something behind us from the few local series sponsors we have. The series is only in its 2nd year and this is the first year were we have sponsors. In 2005 all we could do is hand out trophies, but this year we decided to up the entrance fee so there would be a money pot to win along with what ever the rce sponsor was willing to hand out and leave out the trophies. Its $85 to run pro compact and the more cars that show up the more money you will win along with the Prize from DynotuneMP.

As for the run off area I presonally feel its much better then GLD, I have a neon with wide tires, not as wide as yours and I can make the turn if I swing it out. Also the run off area is pretty long I think a 1/4 mile in itself along with a sand trap at the end of it. Lets just put it this way byron has had 300mph funny cars run down there with out any issues, so your car should be just fine.

If you have any questions and or concerns contact me with a PM and I will help you answer any questions, also if you are going to be at BOTI this weekend I may show up on sunday and if you are there I can talk to you face to face.

Thanks
Ross

Payouts are determined by what class you run in and how many show up. Racers pay at the gate for the money pot in the class they run and at the end of it all there is a payout for those who get it.

Hmmm could be interesting. Pro Compact would be the class we fit in if we go.

We would like a little more info also. If we cant attend the 22nd where can we get info. It does cost a lot to run there cars and we experiance a lot of drivetrain breakage so payout is important. Hope to talk to you soon Ross.

it all depends. The street compact class has a total of 6 cars in the points this year. I thought when I created the 2 classes that more people would show up from the compact aspects of things but that has not been the case this year. As for the series, between the 8 classes we have we can pull in around 60 cars for the whole deal. Even when it was 100 degress in the july race we pulled in 48 cars.

Just a heads up sometimes at the races things can get a little screwy, byron has a habbit of having 2 or more series running on the same day and if the bikes are there its even worse cause those things tend to break and non of them understand how to pull onto the side of the track, they tend to just keep going and oiling up the track and you have a 1hr down time.

Also if you guys need anything you can check out our site at http://www.imsmracingseries.com or if you have any questions please get ahold of me.

Thanks Honda-Tech for your support.

Ross

I will definetely be running this next year. Car is down with bent valves because i broke my water pump off the car.

But will be in the Pro Compact catagory because i went to an electric water pump so that wont happen again.... (unless you want to modify the class for me )

Byron is the best hooking track i have been to. Over joliet, gateway, IRP. To bad i didnt have my slicks, cuz we went straight from the dyno to the track and slept in line at the gate. Had full traction on bfg's DR at full boost. Havn't had full traction even on slicks. Ran an 11.9 at 134 mph with 2.3 60 ft. Not used to launching the car witht the pedal not on the floor .

looking at rule changes for the 2007 season, need to look at making the series more appealing so we can get more racers to come out to the event. Even if your car is down you should come on out and check us out.

Open invite to all racers with a car or without a car. Come and check us out, I will be the little guy running around making sure everything is going smoothly with the racing.

Thanks

I will definetely be there for the 22nd. I will be with the list of people that Rizzo named off.

I will run my car in whatever class i have to, but it would be nice to not have to run with back-halved and full tube chassis cars.

So keep the water pump rule change in mind

LOL that was what I was thinking when I reviewed the rules about a month ago. I have a meeting with the my partner here soon. He just go married so having time to talk is kinda hard with him in Nashville. I am looking at rewriting the Street Compact rules complety for 2007, I tried basing them off of the Comp 4 and Turbo 4 classes along with SFWD but we as a series want to be different so I think next year anything goes aslong as the car does not go faster then 11.50

I want to keep the fast cars in one class and the budget racers in another. Plus if racers like Joe and Steph come out they will be in one class and someone like use weekend warriors wont have to worry about getting our doors blown off by a Pro Car. Although to say I raced against one of those peps might be kinda cool seeing that they are big time racers in the scene today.

Thanks
Ross

importmotorspec, myself, and a few of the other cars we are bringing are faster than 11.50s but we dont want to run Joe and Steph. most turbo4 classes are running well into the 10's. So I hope your not saying anyone running faster than 11.5 has to run the pro class.

also what about rotories? same class?

Ross, I raced at Byron last august and have come to love the track! The tower folks were really helpful and we had some fun. I'm one of those budget racers but I'm right at 11.5. I have a gutted VW GTI with a low-buck turbo set-up that can run mid-11's all day everytime. We're pretty much with Rizzo (I think we raced with you at a DSM race at Cordova last summer?) in that we have no chance against the back halved cars but we're good sports and just dig the scene so we'll pay the entry fee to support the racers. Just keep the hobbyist in mind with the rule changes.

We missed a good race in KC last weekend, so we might make the oct 22nd race instead!
