Default once and for all: is the 636 a 'cheater' bike?

had an interesting (to say the least) conversation with a young man who rides a kawasaki 636. he starts going on about how he's beat this bike, beat that bike.

i say yeah, of course you would. you have the extra 36 cc's.

he says 'that dont matter. its heavier too.' disregards what i just said, and continues bragging on his almighty machine.

is this true? i mean maybe it is heavier to some degree. but is it heavy enough to offset the extra 36 cc advantage it has over the honda cbr f4i/600rr, suzuki gsx-r 600, and yamaha yzf-r6?

im not looking to bash the kawi in any way. i just want to get some clear cut answers for once. <--- savour it; it wont happen again

Yes, it has 36 extra CCs while the R6, 600rr, gsxr have 599ccs. Simple. Weight is not and should not be an excuse. It's a class, "600cc class", not "up to 636cc class". I'm not knocking it either, I actually want to get one, 1st gen, I don't like the way the 2nd gen ones look.

yea, the extra 36'cc does alot compared to the zx6rr 05 models, but in a drag race shootout of the 05 models on sport bikers magazine it came in 2nd behind the yamaha r6.

It's only cheating if nobody knows it has 636cc's.

When you buy an R6 or a GSXR, you know that the 636 has 636cc's, just as the new 675 has 675 (or close to that, I'm not sure of the actual displacement). Yes, they are all in the 600cc class, but we all know how big and how much HP the different engines make.

I think a true "cheater" bike is stuffing a 750cc gixxer moter in you 600 and not telling anybody.

That and I'm not sure why he is bragging. His 636 beat whatever, just like whatever he beat would beat a 500 and that 500 would beat my 250. Just like a 750 or liter bike would beat his 636. I kind of though the whole "fast in a straght line" BS went out the window with a bike, but I could be wrong.

I don't really consider the 675 as much of a cheater bike, if at all. It's only got 3 damn cylinders.

It's only cheating if you get caught

Its only a "cheater" if you're trying to race in a sactioned event where displacement is restricted. Otherwise, who cares?

Seriously, i didn't know there were rules about this stuff, did i miss the memo?

the new zx6r is supposedly going to go back to a 600cc engine.

Only in the AMA.

WERA and CCS it competes against the 600's.

It's not a cheater bike.

What a fool. It's not so much the bike as it is the rider. I can bet some money down that he will no way in hell get close to the times they pull off in the magazines. So if he's winning, it's probably not because the bikes he races against but more because of the lack of experience from his opponents.

I knew some guys at a local drag strip back in the days that used to race Suzooki 750's w/stretched swingarms that couldn't get their times below 11's. I'm sure a test rider could easily pull 10's on them stock.

+1 But it was strapped down to lower it and they threw a big gear on it or some such so they don't over work the clutch through out the day. Nevertheless, damn impressive for no power mods. Plus its a Yammy HooRAAH!!

A friend of mine has a 636 and he's beating Suz 750s' but he is an above average rider and hits the track often. I remember hearing about the 636 being unfair competition for the 600s' and should run with the 750s.
