Default pr3s or ctrs. in ls/vtec.

ok well i have decided to go all motor on a budget. im getting a ls swap like very very soon. but it is coming with a hydro tranny. so im gonna trade the tranny and some other parts for a b16 long block. im gonna go ls/vtec. i was gonna use ctr pistons but i have been hearing mixxed opinions on them. should i use ctr pistons or the pr3s from the b16 longblock? it probly wont be my daily driver but i would still like to be able run pump gas. so thanks for any help.

use the pr3's but if its not going to be your daily then build up the ls block with ctr pistons...im assuming you have at least 93 octane where you live right?

I THINK YOU SHOULD GO WIT THE CTR,S I HAD A SIMILAR SETUP LIKE THAT LS BLOCK CTRS LS RODS WIT ARP BOLTS I HAD A STOCK TYPE R HEAD WIT SKUNK 2 CAM GEARS WASNT DIALED IN AND MADE 198 WHP I LATA ON GOT SOME SKUNK STAGE 3 CAMS A KATMAN JHPUSA CHIPPED COMP WIT VAFC AND MADE 213 STILL 81 TRIM SO GO WIT THE CTR,S RETARD THE TIMING AND YOU COULD RUN 89 OR 93 YOU CAN EVEN ADD A LIL OCTANE BOOSTER IF YOU WANT

I think P30s would be right before the border between pump gas and race fuel.

ITRs and CTRs are COMPLETELY different. Not even close to the same.

If you're having trouble finding P30s new then just use your PR3s (its only like .3 less than P30) or if you want new PR3s get them from RSMachines

its not a motor persay. They're refering to the pistons of a JDM B16A (SIRII) a.k.a. P30 pistons.

my vote is for the p30's. They have less of a domed piston which although it decreases overall compression, it allows for less disruption of airflow, which in my opinion is more essential in making good power. The p30s are also a bunch lighter, which make not make a world of difference, but i like it. They're both about 170 bucks new, i picked mine up a h motors but i'm sure others carry them also.
