Anyone have any issues with these clutches?
Mine has slipped for quite sometime now and I am not making more power then the clutch is rated. It was properly broken in, and installed. I have heard locally more bad then good about this company. I wish I had never bought one, but maybe its just me all alone here, so post up.
I have a Stage3 sprung 6 puck and wish I would have never bought this.

I have always heard good things about Spec Clutch. A couple of my friends have them;
A buddy of mine with a '90 Probe GT turbo with some minor mods, he was running 14.3 @100, he had the exact same clutch (Spec Stage III, Sprung 6 puck) and it was awesome, he was running 16+ lbs of boost and it held tight..old car+ nasty clutch+turbo= sounds like you're breaking the dash and windshield in half when you shift hard...
Also, my friend with a 400SBC third gen camaro, High 11 second car (T56 6 speed on the sb) He had a spec Stage III, and it worked fine...also, a guy I know with an '05 GTO with I/H/E had a spec stage II and it worked fine for a long time. I've never heard of any problems with spec, maybe it was broken in right?

they seem to work well in mustangs, and nissans......
i had one in my mustang, making tons of torque, over 500 ft/lbs, and it worked fine
i put thier "stage 3" in one of my sohc vtec civics with a 50 shot, slipped like it was greased up! and i broke that clutch in for 750 miles. ENJUKU racing wouldnt do anything for me either

SPEC has a good name in the domestic world, but the last "stage three" I saw from them was a Valeo OEM-equivalent GSR pressure plate with an unsprung puck. That just doesn't cut it with most turbo cars, you just destroy flywheel and pressure plate in 2000-8000 miles.

i had an act xxtreme pp w/ six puck that lasted about 6 passes.ran a spec stage 5 for two race seasons with no problems.it was working great when i took it out to change to their twin disc
I had the spec stage 5 4 puck a while back...completely came apart and all the lining came off the disc......the car would slip the clutch at 20 percent throttle it sucked but i didnt expect much for the price...exedy twin now...
All clutches have issues; sometimes they just come apart, just like sleeves sink, regardless of who you get them from.
Survey says SPEC clutches on Honduhs and some other makes have a HUGE failure rate. Clutchnet seems to be the best cheap brand name, ACT et al do a generally fine job, and it's a shame twin disc info isn't as fluent but at that level I'd really expect a selection of nothing but good units.

Wade, I am interested in seeing what the actual problem is. How many miles are on the clutch? What flywheel was used? If stock, was it resurfaced? Who provided the installation? Was the clutch broken in properly? How much torque is being made? All of these questions can reveal vital data for the cause of clutch issues. I appreciate any info you can provide and will be happy to help you determine the potential problem and subsequent solution. Thanks,

I installed it, i am a well known mechanic at a well respected shop here in Louisville, KY called AutoLab LLC. Part of the BBB. Car is on 10psi so it makes no more then 300whp and TQ around 200ish. Yea, the flywheel WAS resurfaced, an OEM one. Myself or the shop won't do a clutch install without resurfacing the flywheel. And yea, it was broken in properly. I didnt even have the turbo kit installed at the time of the clutch install, the car was bone stock.
Right around 30K miles are on the clutch, but it was prone to slipping at 13K miles and just never had money or time to replace it for a better clutch or a twin disk which will be needed for my new setup

at BOTI in Joliet this weekend, a friend of mine put a spec clutch in a while back so it was broken in (Stage 3 but I can verify) and it was destroyed in the burnout box via 2nd gear burnout. He could drive it home but continuing to race was not an option. He is already thrown it in the garbage as far as I know.
This was a SOHC making about 230-240whp.

Guess i shoulda sucked it up with spec and got the twin disk the first time when i kinda had money, but now, forget it

He had an ACT that was actually OK but when he replaced the tranny with a Y8 that he completely rebuilt with a Quaife diff, he decided to put a new clutch in. He got a good deal on the Spec and completely regrets it. Their junk IMO.

i had an ACT and it was great for 2 years on an equivalant clutch. I guess i will save for an ACT. i know a few inside ppl and prob could get a HUGE cut of not one for free. I liked SPEC in alot of other cars, but i dunno. not happy. i am pretty known here and alot of people are kinda deterred from the clutch now after watching my races.
Wade, I can appreciate your frustration. I will be more than happy to take a look at the clutch if you would like to send it in. Give me a call at the number below for an RMA number.
Ladysman, as for your friend, I will be more than happy to speak with him too.
Each of you have to realize that clutches don't just fail. This is why I was asking the questions of Wade in my last post. As you can imagine, no one ever makes mistakes installing clutches or in breaking them in--this is meant as a joke of course--but until a clutch is pulled out of the car there is no real way to know the cause of an issue. It is always easy to say "this or that company builds @#$%" but it is another thing to pull the clutch out and let us help you assess the problem. I will be happy to speak with either of you concerning your specific issues further if you like. Thanks,
