Default A FEW QUESTIONS PLEASE HELP!

so i noticed a little bit of fresh oil the size of lets say a hamburger under my car it had been parked for about 45 minutes. any idea of what is causing it?

also my car hasnt been running that well and the check engine light was on so i go to shucks to get it looked at and they say my catalytic convertor was clogged what can i do to fix this? i also have an exhaust leak and the piping rattles in low rpms..

also it makes that nasty sticky belt song when its running ahhhhhhh

and is there anything else i can do to my motor to have it running better its at about 87 thousand miles any maintenance that could help?!

all help is greatly appreciated!

1. As far as the oil leak is concerned, you need to figure out where the oil is coming from to know how to fix it.

2. To fix the exhaust, you could just get a new cat and cat back and bolt that up. You can either go aftermarket or OEM, but you will definitely want to look around for OEM, as if you go to a dealer or shop, it will probably be just as expensive as going aftermarket.

3. According to my manual, at 90k you should change the timing belt as well as any other more minor maintenance (i.e. oil change, filter change, plugs, etc.).

how can i find out where the oil is coming from? and how much does a new timing belt cost and is it hard to replace? so for the catalytic convertor can i just look for a complete catback and what does that include? and how much could i get it for?

To find out where the oil is coming from, it is just a trial-and-error process.

Before I had my truck, I didn't have time to replace my timing belt when it went, so I had to have it done quickly by a repair shop. The timing belt cost about $90, and the labor was about $200. I want to say that you can get a timing belt from Autozone or Murrays for less than that though.

As far as the exhaust goes, any full aftermarket exhaust will run you between $300-$600 brand new (not incl. ebay) depending on what you want. A brand new (not incl. ebay) high flow cat is somewhere around $200-250.

I just want to reiterate that you may be able to find new ebay parts for less, or used parts anywhere for less, but I have always been skeptical about sources. The only time I used ebay was for an SI gauge cluster (it was a good experience), but be careful who you buy from.

You say the oil spot was the size of a hamburger, right?

Well are you talking the .89 cent hamburger from McD's or are you talkin a Bacon Ultimate Cheeseburger from Jack's?

This information will help find the solution to your oil leak tremendously easier.

I wasnt serious. But,

get under your car to see if you have any obvious spots where it could be leaking from. Some spots that it is most likely leaking from could be:

Oil pan
Oil Pan gasket
Drain Plug
Head gasket
Valve cover

I have seen them all so clean all of these surfaces and see if there is more oil coming from any of these spots...
