Default Tranny swap

So I'm looking a probably swapping my 4-speed out for a 5-speed this weekend and my main concerns are will I have to change anything other than the tranny itself (ie. linkages, etc.)?

what car do you have is it a std.? if it is a civic hatch "std." it is a 1.5 with a 4spd. then you will need new hubs because the spline count on the drive shafts will be different! meaning you will also need new drive shafts. the linkage should still be the same. unless u use a 4wd wagon tranny then the linkage is a cable setup.

Yeah, it's just the "std" hatch. It's already been 1.6 Si swapped and the 4-speed just recently went to crap. I don't know how deep I wanna get into fixing this thing cuz it's just a winter beater, and if it takes that much work, I'll just find another 4-speed for it...

I'll probably just find another 4-speed for it so I can at least drive it.

thats cool but 5 speeds are easy to get! hubs are cheep too! i'd hate to be the guy that stopped a awsome upgrade to a car with a few discouraging words.

to swap the 5 speed into the 4 speed car, you don't need anything but the transmission - your shift linkage will work - your 4 speed axles will work - the transmission end of all 88-91 axles are the same - the difference in axles is at the hub end - Civic STD and CRX HF have smaller hubs and use different axles, but the transmission end is the same
