need help painting my engine bay.

Default need help painting my engine bay.

So i want to paint my engine bay black. Got some questions for yall. I want my engine bay to be a very high polishy black. Im going to be using a compressor, i dont need a show worthy paint job. Ill be getting paint from napa. How much base will i need like what incremint container should i get? How much clear coat? What other kind of materials will i need. And how should i tape the car off to make sure theres absolutely no clear coat.

The reaason im doing this is because i baught my car and my engine bay has been destroyed i would post pics if i had a camera so , some [paint gurus help please!

What sandpaper gritt should I use to scuff the bay? I dont want to see any sandmarks afterwards obvioulsy.

1. Clean bay COMPLETELY with a degreaser. (You must have ZERRROO oil/grease on the painted surfaces).

2. Sand down existing clearcoat and/or paint a layer or two with 400 grit dry sandpaper.

3. Wetsand bay with 600 grit wet sandpaper.

4. Spray basecoat (you will need 1 quart max).

5. Spray clearcoat (since you want it to shine).

There are variations in there depending on your goals. Some will prime first, some will do some custom shaving/bodywork etc. But for a quick spray, follow my steps. Should you want to prime it, add in step 1A of sanding dry with 320, and step 1B of spraying primer, then move onto Step 2.

do u think doing primer with aerosol would hurt anything?

No, it won't hurt. And never use your gun that you use for paint/clear for primer.
