So I have a d16 block, what now?
Sup guys. Before I begin any further, I just want to point out that I am not interested in getting any other motors to put in my car, so please don't bother telling me. So anyways, I just got a friend's 87 Acura Integra D16A1 motor and I've managed to tear it down to the bare block. Before I begin working on it I wanted to get some questions answered so at least I know wtf I'm doing (or try to do) and where to start. Simple? I hope so....
First thing's first, I did a search on "d16" and found no results here on the site. Obviously either nobody's bothered to mess with this kind of motor, or people call it something I've never heard of. If there is another term or abbreviation for it, do tell me as I'm sure it will prevent me from looking anymore like an idiot than I am now.
Right now my current D16 motor (in my 87 CRX) is having some oil leak into the combustion chamber through what I believe is from the valve seals. Being the problem, I'm only looking to make this extra block a little bit faster (50hp would be nice) and/or a bit better on the gas mileage than the current one already in my CRX (its still my beater car). If anybody has any insight on what I would be looking for (terms, sets, etc.) that would be just a step or two up from stock I'd be most appreciative.
Right now the block has some minor cylinder wall rust which I plan on removing by having it bored out or just by honing the walls. I'm sure that by just honing the walls I would be able to do the trick, but if I have it bored out (ideas on how much to bore?), how much of a significant change will it be from just honing it when buying parts?
Should I stick to just honing out the walls, I'm just looking to replace the cams, valves, valve springs, cam gears, pistons, rods, and the intake manifold with aftermarket products. The rest I planned on leaving stock that are still in usable condition. Is there any parts that I would also have to replace that I may be overlooking that should be replaced in conjuction with any of the above said parts? I'd hate to get a new thingamajig that blew up because I didn't get a thingamabob to go with it.
I guess overall, is there a book out there for "How to build a 4 cylinder motor from scratch for dummies."? :D
If anybody can give me some great insight on any or all of this you would have no idea just how grateful I would be. Thanks in advance ^_^

Eh, just a little hint or idea would be most appreciative for at least just one question. I would really like to get to get an idea of what I may be buying sometime soon. Thanks...
When you search for d16 you should check the archives.I believe the d16a1 is about the same as the d16a6 which came in the 88-91 civics
Whene you search on the right side of the screen it will say archive or recent. Also search under d16a1

Fly, oddly enough I did do just a search for d16 and no results. But at least I know what I can also look into other than a d16a1. Thanks for clarifying that up for me...

Dude, dont spread incorrect information, if you are not sure, dont post it.
The d16a1 is a dual cam and the d16a6 is a single cam.
The d16a1 is about the same as the DOHC ZC.
you can get zc pistons and get some cams and rebuild it.
well, whatever you decide to do with it...good luck

Dude, just trying to help the man out I said and I quote I BELIEVE if you would of helped sooner than I wouldn't have had to try. But people don't give a damn and treat noobs like crap.Well you were a noob too. I bet you wouldn't have said anything if I didn't post. And the motors are similiar in lots of ways and different in others,{a1 has dome pistons, and the a6 has dish} The guy was trying to get help on rebuilding his motor and if he can't find info on th a1 he can read up on building the a6 and get some real good info. From what I can see you talk a bunch of trash on HT and don't help out many people just criticize them.
Breaker good luck
