Default Question about trap speed/rpm/tire size...

Right now my car is at 4k rpms @ 60 mph. I have a gsr tranny w/a cradle (4 speed) and 26" tall tires. Anyone have a similar setup? I'm hoping to trap in the 130-135 range, and am not sure how far I'm gonna have to rev to get there.

A lot also depends on how much power you are making. I would say with 450-500whp you should be able trap those times at around 82-8500 rpms. I dont have any first hand experience with that exact combo but gauging by my setup (25's and a B16 trans.) that should be close. Search the drag racing forum, if I remember correctly this has been covered in there a while back. GL,

26's are gonna be too big, 24.5's.
right now, me, shifting 9400, i am trapping 8800 at 130 mph. on 24.5's.

Just wanted to make sure I'd be ok...the 26" tires are my street tires (235 60 15 et street radials)... I haven't gotten slicks yet. If I have rpm left I may go with a 24.5-25" slick.

ok 26" slicks woulda been too much. but 24.5-25's are ideal.

Speed and rpm has nothing to do with power.

Really? So you are saying that my car on low boost will trap the same MPH at the same RPM as it will on high boost? The more power you are making should make your acceleration faster in turn requiring a sooner shift and altering the gear and/or the MPH/RPM you are crossing the line at. Atleast that is what my understanding is. Please correct me if I am wrong. I am not denouncing what you are saying I am just trying to grasp the concept and possibly learn something in the process.

i think what he is saying is with 10k hp, at 9000rpms = xxx mph.
and at 100hp at 9000rpms will still net xxx mph.
will take an *** load of time to get there though.

I agree, I understand the tire rollout measurement is the same no matter how much power is being used. But when it comes to a set distance, IE; 1320 ft, the finishing MPH/RPM varies given the different power output.
