Flip up DVD Alpine, Pioneer... recommendations...
Hey guys:
I'm looking to get a flip up dvd screen put into my Tahoe. I've been doing some research but nothing really seems conclusive on who has the better product, etc.
I've heard about the Pioneer AVH-P5700DVD unit, seems affordable and that it can do what I want it to do. However, I'm concerned because I know the N2 and N3 have a "gyro" that won't allow it to be bypassed for playing while in drive. If someone could clarify that for me that would be great.
Personally I'd like to go with a unit from Alpine to keep everything else audio uniformed, IVA-D100 or even the IVA-D310.
If you guys could chime in about which you think is better, why, etc... it would be sincerely appreciated as this is a topic I know very little about.
TIA.

do you want navi?
have you looked at the double din units (pioneer z1, eclipse units, etc.)
the n2 and n3 can be bypassed if need be, it all depends on whether you want navi or not.

Navigation would be nice, but not a must have.
Pros/Cons to the Pioneer 5700?
The double din would be nice, but everyone I've talked to says I don't have the room for it . They say I have a 1 1/2 din mount?

Go with an Alpine flip out monitor. I have seen some of the screens on the Pioneer units black out. It not a common problem but I have seen it at least three times. The units were under warranty so the only downside was waiting to get the unit back.
What year is your Tahoe? If its 00-05 you can get the Alpine W200. Its a double din and it fits. I know that for a fact because I have installed one in a 2005 Avalanche and 2004 Suburban.

It's an 02' Tahoe. I know it's nerdy but I checked the vehicle fit on Bestbuy's website and it even says that it won't fit.
Alpine seems like the way to go, more input is welcomed of course.
Also; Can the W200 be bypassed for rolling picture?

for the 02 tahoes you should be able to use the metra 99-2003 which allows for a double din head unit. i personally like the eclipse double din units but that's my preference, other manufacturers make good units also though if you're not willing to pay the extra $$.
There is a DD kit for the 03-06 and even the 07 Tahoe from Scosche... http://www.scosche.com/media/D...p.pdf but nothing for 02s
and the Metra 99-2003 will work for the 03-up Tahoe... http://www.metraonline.com/pro...e=ALL

It fits I will try and get some pics and email them to you. You have to notch out some plastic behind the radio though. And yes the W200 can be bypassed.

I stopped by the local audio place, they said since I have a din 1/2 that it would have to be custom fitted. They said for a good looking job I'd be looking at around $400.
I don't know if that is reasonable or not, but that's what they told me.

Your better off, [by about $300] if you install a flip out, that would pay for a pretty nice set of speakers

Have you tried looking for the newer dash bezel? If its just the opening that is different then you can just get an 03-up bezel.
I haven't. I think I'm going to stray away from changing anything to the dash that would be permanent. It's just a matter of finding the right price.
