rpm crazy
right when i start my car it revs up to about 4k or so and then i have to shut it off when it goes to 3 i let it go and it slowly went down lately ive been messing with the ignition timing not for power but to get it to run right my throttle cable isnt stuck or anything is this because of a sensor oxygen or coolant temp thats all i can think of when it revs like this it drives better but i dont think it would be a good idea to keep it like that
well 4k is a little high on rpms, but honda designed the car to sense the cold and rev the engine a bit to warm it up better. what you are seeing is almost normal if you live in a cold area. working correctly it revs to more like 2500 rpms, so you might have a problem with your fast idle thermo valve. search for FITV and youll find some more information.
ive noticed the high rev on my car when the engine starts cold (like over night or a coldish day). But when its in the high rev (about 1500 rpm) the engine/exhaust sounds like its repeatedly cutting in and out. Best way to explain it is when watching the rpm and listening it goes: rrrrRRRRRrrrrrrRRRRRrrrrrRRRRRRrrrrrrRRRRRRrrrrr.. . mind you this is when listening to the car idle. The capital R's are for the louder cut from the engine. it stops once the engine has been running where its hotter and isnt doing the high idle.
