Most likely the reason is b/c the AC puts extra strain on the motor and if you have a smaller motor X strain is a lot more than if you had a larger motor. You notice it easily - especially on hills.

running the A/C compressor requires a lot of energy, and that energy needed is provided by the motor at the expense of performance. My SiR feels slow as **** when its on too, dont worry.
