Default 96 GSR swap w/ITR cams

Ok, my friend just bought an EG with a 96 GSR swap with ITR cams.. he's running on a p72 ecu now but also have a p28 chipped ecu that he can use to run crome later.. Can he use the stock valvetrain with ITR cams?? Also, the car runs good but vtec isn't that noticeable, it has a stock intake, manifold, obx header, stock piping to exhaust. Is the GSR vtec engagement not too noticeable since it still has the butterfly IM?? Not too familiar with GSR motors. Thanks in advance.

the 2nd engagement is the IAB's (secondaires). but to get the most out of cams you'd need a single stage intake manifold. it would also help to have a better fuel maps, which you can get with a chipped ecu, as long as the person knows how to make a decent basemap.

and yes, stock vavletrain can be used. but i wouldnt take it over 8500 personally.

stock gsr valvetrain has only single springs on the exhaust side. your friend should not run the itr exhaust cam on there, but can. the chance for engine failure is more probable than if he were to run a gsr exhaust cam. this coming from a guy on bc3+ cams with stock itr valvetrain though...

Can he get a ITR basemap to use until he fully tunes it later? He has a chipped p28.

its been proven multiple times that you can run ITR/CTR on stock valvetrain if you keep the stock revlimit...i personally had them on a GSR with no problems, along with alot of other people i know

i forgot to add also. the GSR exhaust springs are the SAME part # as ITR intake springs, so really you could just put the exhaust side on the intake, and get new ITR exhaust springs...but he should be fine on his gsr valvetrain...just get a good basemap

proven? did you or your friends measure the the valvetrain before and after to prove that there was no accellerated wear? Just because your engine doesn't blow up in X amount of miles doesn't mean its 'OK'. Just because you don't rev past the stock redline doesn't mean the spring doesn't have to work harder, it does.
