H22 or H23?

H22 or H23?
Alright I am looking for a 4th gen prelude, but I dont know which model to get the H22 or H23...I know the H23 has more torque and the H22 is a higher reving engine, but as far as potential power which would be the best to start with?

most people tend to gravitate towards the H22. personally i'm partial to my H23. but then again i've never owned an H22. I think that if you can find a 4th gen with an H22 already in it, then i would go with that.

I'd say it has to do some with what intentions you have w/ your Prelude IMO. There's plenty of parts made for an h23, you just have to find em. For the h22 on the other hand, you open your front door and there's parts falling out of the sky for those.

Find one with an F22 and boost the crap out of it.
I put a JDM H22 into my car and when I pulled the F22 I sold it to a friend. He rebuilt it and dropped it in his EF coupe and boosted it. We raced a few times and he smoked the ***** out of me. Granted his car was lighter and he used a B16 tranny, but he was puttin down like 230 at the wheels on a stock F22. No build up at all. It ran great for like 15k before he blew it up. Then he just bought another F series and did it again. They are dirt cheap.
And if you wanted to go a step further you could get an F series lude and swap on an H23 head and boost the ***** out of it. That would be FUN!!

yeah
boosted f's can handle alot, I've got a friend (JosephDavis) who has an f-series in his crx
400 whp, 286 lb.ft.
they can handle a shitload of abuse, and then when they do blow up like you said they are really cheap

Or If you have a little extra money to burn you could put the H22 head on the F22 block and boost it. Then you get all the benifits of the H22 head with VTEC and boost. I just prefer the H23a head cause then you can Junkyard boost with a DSM turbo kit.

I am guessing you are asking if you should get a Prelude Si or an Si-VTEC. I would go with the Si-VTEC even though they are rarer. The H23 might have a little more bottomend tq. (I never noticed much of a difference, if any at all between the H23 and H22), but the VTEC engine is just more fun to drive agressively.

it also depends how high you like to rev. if you dont like to rev too high go with the h23 because most of its power is in the low to mid range. if you like to rev high go with the h22 where the power is mid to high rpm's

the H23 Engine is a bit more torquie on the low end.. a friend of mine has the h22 and i have the h23 and we have drag from a stop.. i have pulled off at least one car length on him then would recover on the high end and catch up..
basicly the same set up I/H/E/CLKit/FLw/suspension upgrade
we work on our cars together he plans on going NA and i'm going FI.. so its up to you which one you'd want to get

^^^ I should also add this and it is only my opinion
If you want to stay NA I would recoment the H22a cause IMO you will be able to get more out of it or get an H23 and possibly do the H22a head in the future.
If your ever going to go FI and don't want to have to sleeve your block find an F22. Then you will have a good base for FI since it has iron sleeves.
Or find a good shell and build your own engine like I am. I found a shell for real cheap ($800), and an F22b1 with 60k for next to nothing ($225 shipped). And I picked up a DSM eclipse turbo kit from he local yard for $300. Now I am searching for a H23a head (complete top half) and am gonna piece it all together and see what I can pull out of it.
When it comes to th eLude you have alot of options.
