HELP: My car's steering wheel doesn't turn back automatically when making turns
I bought a Honda Accord 1997 last month. I find the steering wheel doesn't turn back automatically when every time making turns. I have to manually turn it back to straighten the wheel out.
Thank you for sharing your problem with the world. Now everyone that will read this thread will know that you have this problem.
If you're looking for an answer as to why this is happening, it's probably because your caster is way out of spec. My guess is that someone hit the curb head-on and bent both LCAs.

Stinkycheezmonkey, thanks a lot for your reply. In fact, I went to a garage twice after I found this problem. When I went to a garage for the first time, the mechanic changed ball joint of the left wheel and sent my car aligned. The steering wheel turned back in some degree after fixing, but not completely. I sent my car to that garage again, but this time the mechanic said the alignment was not done very well. Unfortunately, after the second alignment, the situation becomes worse. At present, the steering wheel doesn't turn back at all.

I don't have any idea about the alignment setting, and I don't know how to do the alignment. How much it will cost to have it repared in a garage? thanks

It seems like you don't know much about cars. If you're not going to fix the car yourself, its pointless for us to diagnose the problem. Do as Stinkycheezmonky suggested and take the car to a mechanic or an alignment shop and tell them what it's doing. Their diagnosis (in person) will be much more accurate than ours (over the internet). But if you want to do the work yourself, that's a different story. Let us know which way it's going to do (mechanic or diy), and we'll act accordingly.
Yeah, you really have to take it to another shop. Where are you located? Someone local to you could recommend a reliable place. I don't know about anyone else, but I have no idea how much lower control arm replacement would be.
Thank you two guys. I live in Montreal, Canada. A Honda dealer's garage is not very far away. Maybe I should go to see him. If alignment has to be done again, Shall I wait till November because Winter tires should be put on at that time.
Today,I found another problem of my car. When the car began to move slowly (my foot was not on the accelerator pedal), I turned the steering wheel in some degree and found the front wheel did not turn accordingly. My car continued going ahead. What causes this problem?
your steering wheel turn to wheel turning ratio is notvery good at all.
Seems like you are over reacting to really small issues.

It's going to do that, especially at low speeds. Try going a little faster and then move the steering wheel a little bit. Then you'll notice the car react.

Yeah. I'd say deal with it, as there's no simple change you can do to "fix" that. That's just how the car is.
