Default 6x9 boxes (noob alert)

i have rockford 6x9s in these boxes
http://www.futureshop.ca/catal...catid=

after i put them in, the cone moves a lot less than it did before when it was mounted at the oem location(rear deck on an ek). Does that mean it needs more airspace? do i just drill a hole in the front of the box?

Yes, the small box "over controls" the cone, 6x9s are designed for the average car trunk however just drilling holes in the box may not solve the problem, and could in fact cause more problems, you are going from a sealed cabinet to a "ported/vented" one. 94

the cone barely move at all, where as before, they go up and down a lot. It sounds ok in the box, but would it cause problems for the speakers?

i'm not a sound guy as you can probably tell, the whole reason i put them in the box is so that i can remove everything easily for autox/track days, since the box is held down by velcro tape.

If it sounds good and the speaker is not putting out any distrortion then leave it alone. It not going to break the speaker. Over powering-underpowering a speaker and distortion is a speaker enemy also weather too.

you will be fine. When you get the amp just make sure you tune it so there is no distortion. When your 6x9 are mounted in the trunk there is no pressure support on the cone. So the speaker goes into a free air state. That can damage a speaker because of to much excursion. And when you hear the distortion you turn it down. Same for when you get your amp.
