LOUD Whine Related to Engine Noise
I have a 1986 Nissan 300zx.
I have a pioneer Headunit, and a 4 channel 100x4 watt amplified hooked up to all 4 speakers of course. Ive had this and its been working FLAWLESSLY for over 3 months since the install.
2 days ago I installed another amp, its a rockford fosgate 2 channel 600watt amplifier with a bazooka subwoofer (hey it was free).
Anyway, as soon as I finished the install, and started the car, the front 2 speakers are making a LOUDDD whining sound related to ENGINE speed, it works PERFECT with the car off but as soon as I turn her on its a loud clicking and whining related to my engine speed. I made new grounds, (better grounds) and everything, and cant get rid of it!
The front 2 speakers make a LOUD annoying whine and clicking and the rear ones do as well but are EXTREMELY quiet, so quiet that it has to be night time with my engine idling and me listening closely to hear it.
Some things to aid you guys with my problem:
As soon as I unhook the RCA's, the sound goes away COMPLETELY, right now I have only the 2 rear speakers running and the sub and amp, because it is UNBEARABLE listening to that whine and clicking.
I took out the headunit again and moved the SUBWOOFER RCA cable to the "channel 1 and 2 location (for the front 2 speakers) and then at the amplifer side of the RCA cable I moved it to the 4 channel amp (the speakers amp), I did this to change up the RCA cables to see if the noise is going to go away at all, it DOESNT change one bit?
I thought I had bad power connections.... or a ground connection, but I ran new grounds and even ran a power wire and ground wire directly from the battery to the amp (with extra wire i had laying around) just to see if the whine would go away, it doesnt.
I have NO IDEA what to do anymore and need H-T's help bad!
thanks!
sorry for the long post

try to change the rca to see if the problem continues. If not try going back to your old set up. If not it could be that the new amp is bad and is sending feed back thru the rca.

BTW amps should be grounded as close to the amps as possible to the floor pan of the car, preferably both amps to the same ground point.
I would also like some more info...
1- What is being used for power and ground for the 2 amps, and how and where is the power cable(s) run?
2- What is being used for RCAs, also how and where is it run?
3- How and where are the amps mounted?
4- Is the 4ch amp a Pioneer?

I have DISconnected the subwoofer amp but the sound is still there... I even tryed disconnected the subwoofer amp from the cd player AND the amp at the same time just to make sure there is no signal "disturbance" I guess I could say, but the front 2 speakers still whine and click and so do the back (very quietly for the back though).
The power cables are run from the trunk of the car, through the center console, then through the firewall and directly to the battery. The grounds are on the floor pan of the "trunk" (dont forget its a hatchback if that helps any?).
The subs are just "sitting back there", not hooked up to the chassis, but they are FAR away from eachother and are NOT touchign ANY metal, they're on this foam stuff (both of them).
The RCA cables are run CLOSE to eachother, actually touching eachother and are also run through the center console (same as power wire), ive tried changing up the RCA cables with the ones already run through the car but same whine and click...
The RCA's arent that good of quality, they're all diffrent though, but the quality I can describe is basically teh same thing as walmarts RCA cables that they sell, actually they are from walmart and were like $8 each lol.
The 4 channel AMP is a Targa 4 channel amp, it is OLDDDD but worked FLAWLESSLY until I installed that other amp, not a HINT of hissing, whining, or clicking, AT ALL.
The rockford fosgate amp has even been removed once (this is the subwoofer amp btw), but it has been removed for a couple of mins just to see if somehow it was interfering with the other amp, but long and behold same whine and click.
BOTH AMPS ARE RUN WITH THE same power wire, they're run by a a couple of feet power wire, and then join together and go through the console and to the battery in the front.
I am SO lost.

It may be because the power cable and the "Walmart" cables are run to together try rerunning the power cable on the pass. side of car, [or drivers side if that's the side the cars batt. is on.
If you unplug the RCAs, [all of them] at the HU is there still noise?
Also how and where are the speaker leads from the 4ch amp run?
I meant where and how are the amps mounted?
