I know that the axle ratio is different. In the later Type S, they went with the axle ratio from the USDM EP3 Si (which is also the axle ratio in the DC5 ITR).

It does help.

But most of the difference in the later Type S has to do with radically different computer programming that makes the motor much more enjoyable to drive.

2002 Type S:

3 : 1.517:1
4 : 1.147:1
5 : 0.921:1
6 : 0.738:1
Final drive : 4.389:1

2005 Type S:
1 : 3.266:1
2 : 2.130:1
3 : 1.517:1
4 : 1.147:1
5 : 0.921:1
6 : 0.738:1
Final drive : 4.77:1

Only difference is the final drive &
02-04 RSXs are mistaken for 05/06 RSXs while
05-06 RSXs are mistaken for 02-04 RSXs.
