Default question about setting valves

ok so i just changed the headgasket on my d15b2 and have a question. i had the head resurfaced and they had to loosen all the valves. soo now the camshaft spins freely and i need to make sure i get the timing right. when i reinstalled the head i left the piston in cylinder 1 at top dead center. should i just put the cam gears "up" mark up and then reinstall the timing belt? any help is great!!

The cam gear only goes on one way. There is a little notch in the cam and a dent like thing on the cam gear. If I understand what you are saying yeah you want the cam gear's up mark up. I think I set the head to TDC and then took the cam gear back off and but the timing belt on the cam gear and then installed the cam gear again.
I hope that helps you some.

thanks fro the help man.... lets see the cam gear is on and the head is on the block which is at top dead center for number one. doesn't the up mark on the cam gear also mean the valves are in position for tdc on number 1? so theoreticaly if cylinder 1 is tdc and the cam gear is set to up then i should be ok?

If the cam gears up mark was up when you took the head off and you did not turn the crank pulleye then the cam gear's up mark should be up when you put the cam gear back on.

Yes. Do a quick search for setting TDC so that you make sure you do it correct and that may clear up some of your questions.
