Default so i raced a C6 Z06

let me start off by saying that i almost always keep the racing off the streets.

i've been a huge fan of the C5 Z06 ever since its debut. how can you possibly put down a car that handles and brakes well, crack 11s stock and costs only $50k? fast forward a couple of years and things got even better for the well-heeled; 505hp 7.0L V8 stuffed in a car weighing only 3,1xxlbs. the fastest one i've seen (allow me to magazine race for a second) did mid 11s and trapped at 127mph and topping out at over 200mph. knowing full well that bikes would lose up top (i'm talking after 140mph for a 600 and ~165mph for a literbike), i was still really interested at how my little 600 would hold up in a red light battle.

now on to the story. so tonight on my way to my gf's house i get stopped by a light on a 5 lane road (one way). i checked my mirrors and see this fat, low, HID equipped car come up. as i glance over i see a new copper colored Z06. the light turns and i hear him take off pretty hard (they weren't kidding when they say that those things sound like NASCARs under throttle cause ****, i heard it over my own bike and plugs
) i decided not to bite since i was still in awe, so i paced him till the next set of lights and gave him big thumbs up.

apparently god knew that i've been aching to test one out so he cleared the road of traffic for me (it was like 12am). i knew he wanted a piece too by seeing the way he took off before. the light turns green and i hear him slip the clutch and instantly pull 1 car length. being weary of wheelie-ing, i slipped the clutch from about 5k rpm and rolled into 1st smoothly. by the top of 1st i was already 1 car ahead and ~3-4 cars by the top of 2nd. my guess is that he let off at about 100mph.

so i go on my brakes and waited for him to catch up and gave him thumbs up again and the ~45 y/o guy smiled and nodded back and we went our seperate ways after

just a note, my '03 gixxer 600 is not stock. its got -1/+2 sprockets, Yosh TR3 slip on, K&N filter and a power commander

if this is against the TOS then let me know i'll take it down.

cliffs: ran into a C6 Z06 and went from a dig. buddy goes first but i came back and took him by 3 cars by ~85mph.

the new z06 is an awesome car but im not sure how well it is built there were 2 at the race track on friday and both blew pieces of tranny all over the track. one of them was running 11.3 on radials both had less than 4000 miles

It really needs a better clutch for drag racing, as the stock one won't hold more than a 3k rpm launch. I haven't heard about people braking the transmissions though, the t56 is a very strong trans and should hold up fine at stock and near-stock power levels.

11.3 is pretty good, though. The quickest I have heard for a stock Z06 is a 11.2 on DR's. The guy that ran that time (who also took a stock c5 z06 to an 11.8 on stock tires) says the Torque Management system is hurting that car's performance, and that 10's should be achievable in a stock Z06 with DR's if it can be deleted.

Personally, I would never buy any Vette myself. Just IMO. Good story though

in motor trend, they had a well over 650 whp vette, it was a LPE i may add, and it was running hi 10's low 11's on some BFG dot approved street slicks, and it was on a stock z06 rear end. it held up, until they put on real drag radials, and then it blew the diff right out of the case.lol

Yes, tranny is in the rear to help with weight distribution.
