Default audio setup - 4th gen prelude

I don’t know much about sound systems at all, and would like some ideas on how to set mine up. What I’m looking for is nice, clear, crisp, sound...i don’t care about thumping bass and the like.

My main unit powers 45 watts X4 (will buy something better in the near future) and will upgrade my speakers hence I’m looking for suggestions on these as well as what amp(s) will serve me best, and which speakers to run it to. Here is what I will be working with:

Again, I’m looking for clarity and quality of sound…feel free to fill in what brand/watts would work best. Your help and insight is very much appreciated.

Run a 4-channel setup with 2 channels driving your tweeters, and the other 2 driving the front 6.5s. Dump all the other speakers. You can add a small sub to handle the bass if you want. Get yourself a nice head unit with time correction. If you set that up right, all your sound will be coming from the middle of the dash; this way, you wouldn't need a center channel.

What's your reasoning for using so many speakers?

Im far from a prelude expert, but im pretty sure that the jdm prelude came wit a 6x9 center channel subwoofer, i think the us dohc vtec has that too. If you just get a standard 6x9 it wont sound right, you'll have mids and highs coming from a speaker location normally intended from a mid bass driver. As for the 2in center channels since you already have them feel free to put them in, its your car and if your happy with it thats all that matters.

But most people will tell you a good system including a pair of components for the front, 6.5s for the rear, i say forget the center 6x9 and get a good 10in, and a good amp.s to power it will be plenty.

Also make sure the 2in center speakers and designed to work as a center channel, if not they can produce soundwaves which would not be in phase with the rest of your system which can ruin a really nice set-up. Im not sure if phase is the right term, but remember more speakers dont mean better sound.

Thanks for your insight! I'd still wanna make the center speakers possible.... Question, is there a center channel amp i could run the 6x9 sub and center speakers to? or do i need a Head unit that already provides one? Again, please bear with my limited knowledge.

Why are all you guys saying skip the center channel? If its a well planned audio-video system go for it. Pro-logic surround sound in the car is great. If you are not going for video I would skip it. But Its worth it if you are in to it. To the op, what processers are you going to use for your surround system? I could point you into the right direction. Me and my bro inlaw are going to tackle this in the next couple of weeks.

Oyea, that 6x9 in the back was used as a sub for low fill. Toss that and add a small ten in the trunk or maybe a eight inch sub. Here are some pioneer products for you to check out.

I am going to be adding this to a avic-z1. You need to first plan out what source units you will be using.

I don't know where to start..can the DEQ-P8000 be connected to any Head unit or the HU itself has to be preset for a center channel? I do have video in my car. I really wanna keep the 6x9 sub as i don't want a box in the trunk and i'm not too big on bass. I guess i'd need to see if there are still any 6x9 woofers in the market out there.

Compatible with the following Pioneer Models:

*
Full Control: AVH-P6800DVD, AVH-P5700DVD, AVH-P6600DVD, AVH-P6500DVD, DVH-P7000 and DVH-P5000MP
*
Semi-Control (AXM-P8000 required): AVIC-Z1, AVIC-N3, AVIC-N2, AVIC-N1, AVX-P8DVD, AVX-P7300DVD
*
Source DVD Players: XDV-P6, XDV-P90 and SDV-P7

Off of pioneers website, what kind of HU do you have.

And what kind of speakers and stuff are you putting into your car, most of my friends have mobile video in their cars and trust me when you have your windows tinting with a good system its simply amazing; it sounds way better than in the theaters and to know something of that caliber is in your car is equally amazing plus it makes work go buy so much faster.

If I were you go with the pioneer http://www.pioneerelectronics....onent

This unit can run your whole surround system. With out any external amps. It pioneer first 6.1 channel headunit. The amps are built right in. But you have the option of adding external amps if you choose.

The other two units I showed you have to be used with pioneer only. Here are the hook up instructions so you can see how easy it will be for yourself.
http://www.pioneerelectronics....l.pdf

As for the sub it won't power it so your going to have to add a amp.
Here is a 6x9 sub that you can use. matter of fact here are two diffrent ones.

This set up will get you were you are trying to go. and will sound pertty good if the speakers are installed properly

Thanks guys! I currently have a cheap ebay multimedia player, but planning on upgrading to something better. My 7.2" LCD monitor is already mounted independently in the dash (behind the tinted glass for those who know 92-96 preludes) so the Hu i will need doesn't have to have a screen. I'm also considering a "carputer" so i can add a navigation feature, but i'll have to research this further...as per speakers i'm looking for some quality 6.5s (maybe two-or three-way?) and a replacement for the oem 2"center speakers and of course the woofer..
