Polishin my header?
This is the header i want to get polished so it can turn that bronzish gold color. I read sandpaper starting with 800, 1000,1500 and 2000 than just polishing. Some other guy told me to get this stuff at a golf shop called Black and Blue remover.

Its a Kamikaze Header, bought the car with it installed so i dunno how well it works, i might just switch it out but eh. I searched it btw, but all the pictures were either not hosted anymore or red xs so i dont know which method worked the best. thanx for any help.
And yes engine bay is dirty but cars not moving right now due to blown ac compressor- once that gets on this coming week- i will degrease the whole engine and start cleaning it up somewhat.

any one ever done this to stock exhaust manis? wonder what it would look like i may do it b/c my bros doing this to his headers and might have leftover polish
i dont think you can do it to stock manifolds...right? The reason im doing this to mine is cuz it once was polished before and i want it like new- and to get that bronze color. I dont think theres anything you can do to a stock manifold except keeping your heatsheild for it, or getting aftermarket. ? maybe im wrong.
BTW, has anyone thought of doing this to their muffler? i might do it to mine as well- get it lookin shiney and new haha.

you could always sand metal down to a new coat and get a "cleaner" color. regardless if its been polished or not b4. and possibly the polish might help that newer "cleaner" color stay. i might try it with some leftover stuff.
The stainless steel headers look nice at the start but get nasty quick- especially if you have greasy fingerprints on them and you don't wipe them off before starting the car. In my case I went with the ceramic coated headers, but they've been on quite a while now and could stand some sanding and a respray.
For the bluing: There are a lot of materials out there for getting the bluing off chrome pipes- the ads are more prevalent in motorcycle magazines and catalogs since the pipes are more prominent right from the header on out, and the header is usually the worst area of discoloration. Here are a few options for you with info from J&P Cycles item #'s if you can't find them locally and want to order them online or just check out the site and read/compare the info on each item.
-"Blue Job" metal polish (I like the name...) Jar comes with app. cloth
item#440-494 $11.99
-"Blue Away" 2.5 oz. bottle
item #440-492 $12.99
-"Blue Buster"Polishing Powder (Use with wet towel)
item# 440-160 $6.99
- "Blue Buster" Polishing Kit (Includes ultra fine rubbing gel and hand drill polishing
pad) item#440-493 $23.99 complete kit
J&P Cycles - http://www.jpcycles.com 1-800-318-6847 (24 hr./ 7 days)
** I don't mean to push their site specifically, but I've ordered a number of times from them and they do have good prices and a wide variety of items. (Plus I had a catalog within reach...)
These types of things definitely work better than standard metal or chrome polishes. In my experience with my bike's pipes the discoloration came back faster when you use the regular metal polishes than when using stuff specifically for pipe bluing since it can be a bi%&h to remove.
Hope this helps!

I guess im going to need some of that Black-Blue Remover. I got to about step #5, and noticed a lot of the blackish blue isn't being sanded off. I was thinking of just moving onto step 6 but i dont waste it only to find out it didn't work. Heres my progress- lmk what you guys think i should do- i might just go buy that stuff right now.

ugly header

this was after the rust remover bath

this is after the brake parts cleaning, and 800grit sanding down

thats the "discoloration" im talking about. what do you guys say im gettin impatient and might just go outside and start working with that polish, learn a lesson or sumtin. i have to take off in 20 minutes to pick up my gf from school so i might just get some of that "black/blue" remover from a motorcycle shop. laterz

I have polished all of my intercooler piping to a mirror finish from a raw finish... YOU HAVE TO COUSE SAND AND THEN FINE SAND IT. Using Mothers Mag and Aluminum Polish alone is not nearly enough. Go to the hardware store and by all of the sandpaper available from 400 grit to 2,500 grit and put in the elbow grease, then follow-up with the polish.
yeah i bought some lower grit sandpaper, and started to work on it- looks a lil better than that. Also some friend kept insisting to "wet-sand" and it didn't work as well as dry sanding- but its coming along. new pics up tonite more than likely. Hey post pics up of those intercooler pipes man- id love to see that.

I'd like to, but I don't have a digital camera
.
If you polish the piping thoroughly with 400 grit up to 2,500 grit, then there is no reason that it shouldn't come out as deep and shiny as chrome.

headers done, came out nice but my camera owned me- no batteries lmao. will post up pics of it installed tomorrow. My ac compressor and gas/temp gauge came in as well- just in time so the car can start running again
BTW. What do you guys use on your headers after you install it to degrease any oil, and to acheive that nice bronze-gold look. Ive heard nail polish remover, wd-40, and some other one. Im thinking the wd40 will be good- i heard windex too? thanx for help.

the guy in the how to has this as his final step
16) Once re-installed on the car BEFORE starting the engine, grab your brake cleaner and spray the entire header down with it. Then spray some brake cleaner onto some paper towels and give the header a final wipe down, making sure to wipe everything. You do this because the oils from your hands will cause the header to discolour unevenly, once the engine is started. You do not want this. You want it to turn a nice even bronze after a couple kilometres of use.

^^^ Brake Cleaner leaver no residue. It will dry clean kind of like alcohol.

Oh yea forgot bout the under engine. I never remove that part when I drop in my engine, just the cross member. An I am not running a front mount so I forget about that also. Even so its still a breeze.
