Steering Column Sleeve...anyone have one?
Well, my 96 Civic finally got stolen. Went for a joy ride across town.
This is an outside car, parks on the street, so there's a chance it'll happen again. The tow-truck driver told me that I may want to look into one of the cold-rolled steel steering column sleeves.
I've done a google search on them and have found them mentioned a number of times on police department web sites as a theft deterrent tip, but I can't actually find any web site that sells these. The mechanic working on the theft damage hasn't heard of them either.
So, my questions are:
1) Does anyone have one of these? If so, what's your opinion of it?
2) Anyone know where to buy one of these?
3) Anyone ever made one of these themselves?
Thanks!

never heard of that.. but I would suggest putting an autolock on the clutch. Also put a fuel pump switch switch on the car for that extra security.

Thanks for the info. May I ask what a clutch Autolock is?
The fuel pump switch is do-able, but that won't prevent them from smashing into the car, which the steering column sleeve supposedly prevents (ie, they can see that they can't easily smash the column open, so move on to the next car).

Autolock is a security device that you attach it either on the brake or on the clutch. I got mine at autozone for $39. Search the forum or google.
The reason I would put it on the clutch you cannot depress on the clutch. You can also put it on the brake but they may still be able to start it.

I have seen these. My father had one way back when on his caprice classic. I have never seen these for import cars. It's not a one size fits all item. It kinda looks like a wide bracelet that fits over the column covering it and the ignition, and is locked by a padlock.
