About to get my car painted.. what lil stuff should i do / watch out for??
about to get my car painted and im worried about the little **** i have to do and stuff to make sure it turns out to be a good process without anything getting damaged or stolen..
so my car is a 95 Integra RS JDM frontend Turbocharged.. wondering what should i do when i drop my car off to get it painted (only getting outside painted ).. im hearing things like:
-remove front bumper
-remove tail lights?
-remove my advan rg I's and put it on doughnuts
-raise height of my car
-remove all my lip kit? and tell them to paint seperately
-tell them what parts to paint and what parts to paint black
-<ur opinions here>
im afraid of:
-theft or them not lockin my car
-them not knowing how to work my turbo timer and stuff or how they will drive my car
heres pic of it:

Pic isn't working.
-make bumper sag so that they can mask off the headlights so paint wont get on it
Never head of that before. If its a decent shop, they should do a good enough job of taping off the headlights.
-remove door panels?
What for? they shouldn't be painting the inside, just the outside. Unless you specifically ask them to paint inside as well.
-remove tail lights?
Shouldn't be necessary, but wouldn't hurt.
-remove my advan rg I's and put it on doughnuts?
Definately. I have a painted tire from a bumper repair.
-raise height of my car
Shouldn't make a difference.
-remove all my lip kit? and tell them to paint seperately?
If you want the part under the lip painted, then you'll have to. Otherwise, they'll just paint it all together. Under the lip won't be painted, but under the lip isn't visible.
-tell them what parts to paint and what parts to paint black
Multi-colored car?
-theft or them not lockin my car
Thats not really something you can worry about. its either safe or it isn't, but a door lock is hardly a protection measure.
-them not knowing how to work my turbo timer and stuff or how they will drive my car
Pull the wastegate spring, run without boost until you get it back.
-overspray paint getting on my front mount intercooler
Tape it off or remove it.

You can just tape the intercooler off like all the other parts. Also, I think you mentioned something about this but make sure you tell them not to paint the front grill or the lower black part of the rear bumper (if it's 98+). It's just being sprayed white over white, right? If the mirrors are already white then you don't have to worry about this, but if they're some other color then remove the glass out of the side mirrors to paint all the way in the cracks. My brother's black car has yellow sticking out on the sides if you turn the mirrors far one way.

I guess it wouldn't hurt anything, as long as the corners of the bumpers aren't covering the fender or covered up by the fender. It's not needed though, just extra work and worries.

well when i remove my front bumper to cover the intercooler with tape. puttin it back on with zip ties and lil tabs and stuff be alot easier then acdtually using bolts and nuts and washers and using force / making sure it goes in perfectly /w no gap. but if i jus throw it on and ziptie, it will sag a lil bit

where are you getting it painted? If its a cheap place like maaco, 1day, earl shieb dont even waste your money, my paint job came out like **** and others did too. the quality of these shops just plain suck.
If you're afraid of them getting overspray on some parts you should simply do the masking yourself, believe me they dont give a **** who's car they are painting, they paint cars all day its their job so why do they care? ************* got overspray on my black leather interior, engine bay, windows...take out all the **** you can before you take it to the shop, it will pay off...

The car looks awesome as-is. btw what lip's and sides are those?
about them knowing how to drive your car. i would tell them not to drive it. they dont need to drive it to paint it. they can push the damn car wherever it needs to go.

Painting a really low car is a pain but they will just have to deal with it.
If i were you I would put the doughnuts on it just incase of some overspray. Also it will discourage them to want to beat on the car.
I work at a dealership body shop and all of the techs including myself will beat on a car in the parking lot if its quick.haha
Yes you should remove tail lamps.
As for the frontmount just point it out to them that you dont want any overspray on it.

seriously, if youre worried about half the things you listed in your first post, DO NOT GET YOUR CAR PAINTED. Even if you only spend $100 getting your car painted at a 1 day place, you wasted $100. Factory paint, no matter how bad it is, is gonna be better than the best maaco job i've ever seen.
if you take your car to a REAL paint shop, they're not going to get overspray on your headlights, they're not gonna beat your car, you won't have to worry about your wheels, or your intercooler.
you should be spending around $2500 for a decent 'outside only' paint job.. i dont care if john smith got a great paint job from maaco or joe whatever found a legit place that will do it for $1000, you get what you pay for. Those 1 day places dont give a **** about you or your car, the paint they use is a joke, their prep work is a joke, they do the shittiest tape jobs ive ever seen, they dont buff anything out, and most of the time their jobs are orange peel nightmares, unless you get luck and get a guy who actually has some real education.

take off all lights or mask them up yourself...mask up the black parts you dont want painted (inside bumper, etc), raise up car to stock height, take out interior if you are doing door jams, make sure sides of the hood underneath are covered up or they will get overspray into the engine bay which is very very hard to clean once paint settles. I wouldnt recommend getting it done at maaco, your best bet would be that shop right by thai cafe, i forget the name, or try the one day paint, i saw a paint job from them on typermans cars and tehy were decent, nothing to brag about, but decent...If i were you though I would really save up and spend the extra money over 1G for a paint job cause you might not be happy with the results, like what happned w/ my 4dr GSR i had to sell it bc the paint was ****, I shouldve paid 400 more at a better shop and have a really nice paint job, but I wanted to save....in the end, you get what you pay for.

dang.. cause theres alot of reasons why i want a paint job rather then just change to a brighter white. 1st off car was originally red, and guy who sold me car sold it with a big *** key mark on passenger side, + a lip kit that when i removed showed alot of ugly marks / scartches / etc. also i just traded away my CF hatch for extra cash for a black one so i need to paint that also /w shaving trunk holes. so im guessin to my knowledge this will be the 3rd time it gets painted after its oem color. but your right about it though.. if only i had 2500 to spend on paint job.. my budget is at most 1,400$ thats if i get lucky and sell some stuff im tryin to sell on HT here.. but i agree with what ur sayin, thats what i think of too sometimes.

yeah my brothers EK got painted at maaco, i didnt like it at all.. i saw typerman2001s 400$ paintjob on the integ. look good for that price, but i want something that last for the long run. im not hearing so much good from 1 day.. sometimes good, sometimes bad.. im thinking about either carcoa (i know they arnt GREAT, but decent i guess cause my last car got painted there and it was ok.. juss alot of overspray and orange peel.. but hey i had that car for like over a year and drove it over 300-400 miles a week on average and paint look like it was clean )
or this one shop my friend recommended me to , miramar auto body or something place that works on ferraris and stuff.. cost about 1,500$ but he got his car painted there and it turned out good.
