Looking for pictures of racecars after side impacts?
Looking for info on side protection. not for any specifics just like to reasearch safety. Don't post any pics if the driver was hurt I don't want to offend anyone.
After hitting a stump

After a roll
I hope no one minds me posting these pictures. If anyone does please tell me and I will remove them right away

here is my car after a side hit. Not that bad really, however the hit was hard enough to spim me around right quick.

yeah that is amazing both of the guys in the pictures I posted were fine.
Were is that picture of that really bad wreck in that crx I think it was. the passenger side of the car was way caved in.

I think you're talking about mine. Look through Edo's photo gallery at edomoto.com. Harut took a couple good pics of my car. It was at the Infineon event in August of last year. If you have specific questions about the damage and what I learned from it, feel free to IM me.

Yeah, Mike Lock's DA teg took a really heavy hit to the passenger side in that USTCC race.

I found some of the "frankenlude” was T-boned at the first SJGP race in T1. From the amount the car moved after impact and the damage we estimate it was a 60mph impact. Driver on this car was shaken but medically ok.

If you look at the A-pillar it’s under the windshield by several inches at the top. On the drivers side I was able to get three fingers between the A-pillar and the glass. IMO the cage held up better than the car!

i believe that the cage that mike lock (calculated risk) built in the car i sold you is pretty much identical to the one that he built for the USTCC DA. only differences being that obviously things fit a little bit different in the civic than the integra, but the same door bars, and passenger bars, aswell as mounting points for the hoops and braces.
the crx and the DA took hits on the side but in different places. And IIRC the crx was hit at a slower speed.

IMO the cage held up extremly well, and did its job. Deformed enough to abosrb most of the harmfull energy and kept the car from coming into contact with the driver.
For those of you who have never seen just a passanger door caved in with no structual damage, you are probably thinking "OMG that was a huge amount the cage moved. But no in reality it didn't.
Number one 95% of passanger door bars are just bars that go stright from the main hoop to the front A pillar bar. What does this mean? That from the out side of the door skin to were the actuall "door bar" is located there is 6-10 inchs. Now on some newer cars there is two factory installed door beams. On older cars one. In this series you are allow to gut the passanger side door whic was done.
This incident should be a HUGE motivator for people to have some type of nascar style door bar on the driver side. If this impact happened on a driver side of a car that didn't have nascar door bars, the driver would have defently been injured.
And to think, that there were cars out at that SAME RACE on track AT THE SAME time who simply have a bolt in auto-power roll cage. If they were to get like this car, well i wouldn't want it to happen..
deviate, the cage in the DA was more extensive then your EK. It had A-pilliar brace, bracing from the tunnel bar to the chassi, and maybe a little more

This is a very important statement for all people only running minimal door protection. I would hate to see someone take a impact like the integra or the crx on the driver side.
That's the reason I wanted to start this thread I think the pictures show how important good nascar door bars are.

That's true. The firewall and right-front wheel took the brunt of the hit in my car. Had my car been hit behind the firewall, it would have looked a lot more like the DA. I'm not sure about the speed of impact in my crash, but it couldn't have been much under 60mph. It was at the exit of 3b going downhill. The sentra driver said that he barely even got on the brakes at all before the miata hit him from behind and pushed him into me. I don't have pics of the inside here at work, but there was actually a lot of damage done inside the car and under the hood due to the force being transferred through the firewall.
There are a couple cars here who have the bolt-in autopower cages also. Some of them only have 1 single diagonal bar for side impact protection on the driver's side! I truely hate to see that having experienced the force of a significant side impact. Plus, we run our tracks here counter-clockwise, so if anything does happen, it's likely to happen on the driver's side.
There's no way I'll ever own another racecar without NASCAR bars on the driver's side.

I'd love to see pics from the inside as well. I'll assume that teg had an X bar on the pass side? Did it protrude back into the car after that?
