Phantom Grip LSD conversion, you like it?
Im going to be dropping in some sort of LSD into my GSR tranny during the engine build I have here. My friend has a 90-93 accord with a built H22a with the phantom and he likes it. On ebay I hear people saying "phantom slip", whats the deal? They are so cheap I am very interested. What is your experience with them?
I had one in my JDM B16 that came with my Stage III Cluthmaster kit and I must say it worked fine and never gave me a problem. I could scratch in every gear except 5th (stock tires/wheels at the time) even when I shifted from 3rd to 4th around 8K RPM right at 90mph.
I bought a OBX LSD because one day I'm hoping to go with some kind of FI or all motor so I figured this would be better then the phantom grip.

From another article here........
Its amazing what a little search does on this site. And BTW everyone is probibly going to tell you to buy the quaife

The problem with the random grip is that the design is inherently shoddy. the mechanism they use to bind the spider gears has not proven to be reliable over a given period of time (a few months) and it eventually becomes dead weight. Also, the design does not, and realistically cannot reproduce the same type of result over and over and hence has earned the name random grip, phantom slip, phantom crap, etc.
the OBX is a better concept, however, the execution is all wrong. for the time and agony spent trying to "fix" the OBX, you're better off spending the money on a quaife or a kaaz.</TD></TR></TABLE>

I use the phatom grip for about four to five months. I didn't have any problems with it and actually thought it worked pretty good. I was using it with my boosted ls-vtec and slicks regularly. I dont know how it is over time cause I am no longer using it. I now have a quaife cause I switched trannys and decided to upgrade.
you have to understand, it's not going to increate the amoutn of pwoer the stock diff can hold, it's only locking the gears to give you a simulated posi traction effect. the stock diff can still break, cracp, shatter jsut liek ti woudl have w/o the grip, and in some cases the grip has caused them to fracture at a less stress level than the stockers due to overstressing the spider pins.
save your $ for a quality unit and do ir right the first time. it's well worth it and in the end you'll have a trans that can take just about anything.
