Default Im just curious if anyoen else finds this annoying?

How come the attitude on here is that if you dont own an SI, you obviously..

have no intent on owning a performance car
shoudlnt bother modding their car

etc etc.

Doesnt it occur to some people that others cant afford the extra few thousand for an SI? I just cant keep it to myself anymore! Im getting sick of those posts of SI owners knocking DX/LX/EX owners =P

This is what Im wondering though.. If you are truely performance drive, arent you going to gut the SI anyways? So if I have an EX coupe, and you have an SI, arent we sitting at more or less the same car once we gut, only the ex was much cheaper? Just seems to me any true performance person isnt going to live w/ the SIs crappy engine. Am I right?

Price of SI non-navi = Price of ex with navi...

But ehhh might want to read the rules before posting...
Si = performance car
EX, DX, LX = Daily driving car

I don't really see any threads going against non-si models. They're just giving you an advice about what you can and cannot do to your car and as an advice you should respect it since they probably have more knowledge ...

nah, i see what he's talking about

but uh yeah –– EX non-nav = cheaper than Si non-nav... so I can agree with what he said, cuz not everyone is ballin... some people just can't afford that extra 2gs for the k20z3 (its just that MUCH extra a month that can break a person's wallet on the rest of their bills)

i think more or less what he was getting at is why if every Si owner always just posting "should have just got the Si" when in reality, its not like that for everyone

lol crappy engine? I suppose the HIGHLY engineered 6 speed transmission, helical LSD, larger sways, stiffer spring rates, etc are all crappy too right? I have no problem with EX/LX models, they're great cars but this thread is a complete waste of bandwith.

I guess no one ever modded an EX/LX/DX eh? What gets me is how Si owners always seem to forget the previous Civics... Not all fast Civics were Si's people. People modded their D's or swapped in B's or H's and now K's. The same can still be done... but it seems everyone forgets that.

1)it would be highly dificult to tune your r18 engine. it would require a lot of custom work to get just barely considered a performance car. i barely even consider the si a perormance car. its basically an overglorified grocery getter of our dx/lx/ex versions. 2) the money needed for all that custom work would cost you just as much buying the si in the first place. 3) k20z is no crappy engine. 4) if you were truely performance driven and you dont have a lot of money, your an idiot to mod your brand new, im sure daily driven car. for example:

my '06 civic lx= $17,000
my '92 nissan 240sx= $2,000
mods in my 240= approx. $6,000

my nissan runs with sti's, evos, corvettes at the track. and its funny to see the faces on the old men who drive their corvettes as i pull away from them on the freeway. you'll soon learn that you cant polish a turd and front wheel drive is not that fun to drive competitivly.

I still like the lower modeled cars, in fact, I think if you are into hardcore modding you should get a DX and motor swap it. The only thing I don't like is people making their DX/LX/EX look like an SI... make it look unique... turning it into a SI clone isnt going to do anything for it.

The only other thing that, in reality, makes the SI any better in the end than the rest, is if its taken care of, it will hold slightly higher value. I still see NICE condition 2000 SIs with 130k miles going for $10,000. Stock.

I agree. Make it your own not a copy of something it is not.

For those that are just asking questions, I do not mind. I have seen alot of DX/LX/EX owners with more knowledge than I have. However, I see people trying to make an R18 engine a performance car. It just isn't going to happen. Some people were mentioning engine swaps. I agree, this could make those other models a performance car.

**Bottom Line - Some people are just going to be an *** on these forums. Ignore them and move on, they are probably just trying to boost their posts.**

here's the bottom line...the whole new line of civics are great cars.

However, if you're here looking to make your SOHC civic quick, you're pretty much out of luck. The car is not performance oriented, it's made for an economical commute, is torquey enough to move through traffic, but it will always be just "peppy."

I'm coming from owning a Lancer Evolution, and it makes the Si look like a dog, but i find the smooth revving, slick shifting traits of the Si to make me happier than going to 0-60 in 4 seconds. It's all about what you want out of the car... i wanted a fun to drive daily driver that still has some pep, while still getting good gas mileage, that's why i chose the Si.

If you're complaining about not having an extra 2k to buy an Si, THEN DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY trying to make your EX or lesser model faster. You already have money issues, do yourself a favor and forget about the intake or exhaust for that extra 5 ponies and put it towards your rent. Again, both models, DOHC and SOHC are great cars... but please stop pretending that either of them are race cars...especially the SOHC.

that's the end of my rant.

just because ou buy the ex doesnt mean your not performance minded but it is true:

ex w/ navi = si w/o navi

however most people on here probably dont even have the ex with navi....nor could they wait for the supid si to come out...i waited for a month and that was too long as i was...had to borrow dad's yellow neon

Whoever said SOHC cars arent fast? I happen to have seen a SOHC civic run a high 10 in the quarter...

IT CAN HAPPEN.... Just depends on the mods, engine possibilities, and the person working on the car.

I think a DX with a K22 swap, boosted to 7 or 8 would be pretty damn fast.

not saying sohc arent fast. just the r18 isnt fast. any car with any damn swap is going to be fast. and i was only commenting the "fun factor" of front wheel drive cars. not that they dont perform well. so its just kind of a personal opinion. and the si is an awesome street car but not a performance/race car. for daily driving i would choose the si over an evo.

eh, i guess you dont like me then, i have an ITR and im planning on getting an SI

kidding aside. i know what your talking about. when i had my 2.5 RS everyone said sell it and just buy an sti if i want power, but i wanted the car that had 160HP because i loved the styling, granted i put an sti motor in it when the stock one blew a headgasket, but its all about what YOU want, dont worry about what other people have or want. and if it makes you feel better, im paying out the *** to have the cars. my insurance is charging me the same for the 06SI and the 98R, that sucks.. but i guess you can say "build me a bridge and get over it" but dont let the other guys bother you...

you should see the subaru guys, one kid with an sti told a guy with a wrx hes better than them because he drives and sti and they have a "cheap" wrx

thats apple and oranges. the 2.5rs was performance driven where the civic dx/lx/ex is not. so were just saying dont its not worth it to try to make it something its not. the 2.5rs was underpowered, my first car, and i also prefer that body styling opposed to these new imprezas. i also hear that people in japan and europe say the old gc8 is a better car than the new gd/stis.

I think nearly everyone except maybe two people missed the point I was trying to make.

Look at nearly all of the threads talking about performance of anything that ISNT an SI.. ALL the responses are the same... Dont bother w/ performance, you didnt get an SI.

This is what Im saying though.. (and this isnt out of jealousy as one person put it). If you are TRUELY performance-inspired, you jsut wasted a lot of money buying an SI. My reason? The engine in the SI really is crappy, say what you want. Why do you think Redlines, SRTs, Cobalt SSs are smoke SIs? Look at the torque of an SI, it says it all.

They really just arent that FAST. So this is why I made the post... Why wouldnt you just buy an LX/EX (Not DX, I need AC =P ) and swap the motors. Then you can put an actual performance engine in it. Seriously, the SI isnt even pushing 200lbs of torque, or even 200hp. Weak, weak, weak. Id rather take the Honda Oddssey out of my moms van and swap it into my LX, instead of spending the extra money on the SI.

But basically this is all Im really trying to push- Why cant you guys just give opinions to ppl who dont have SIs, instead of putting them down for not owning one? Everytime I tried and asked a damn question on my other name, I just got naysayers telling me I never shouldve gotten an LX. And that poster above made an excellent point... how many sleeper civics are SIs? Not many.
