Default Installing an Engine Dampener

I just picked up the Spoon engine dampener and the instructions are in Japanese. the picture they provide is sketchy at best. It doesn't show the mounting points on the engine and the body.

Has anybody installed an engine dampener before? If so, can you please assist.

Thanks.

And yes, I have searched.

if it's the type I think it is, you will probably have a problem getting it to install on a LHD ITR

Might need to rig something up to get it to work...

If you really care about controlling the movement of the engine, get stiffer engine mounts.

Those engine torque dampeners are a gimmick IMHO.

They do work Reid....

well at least when I observe it on a dyno with and without....

but I also managed to bust a J's Racing one (not mine, which was ) as it desperately tried to control wheel hop during a test and tune drag session....

So it must be doing something of sorts.... besides, Spoon hasn't released any new products for the EG/DC line in a while.... just don't use this mount/damper for drag imo....

Was yours installed on an integra or EG? I just looked at the brackets that were provided and they need to be modified to clear the brake fluid resevoir. Do you have pics of yours installed?

Oh, don't get me wrong, I've seen them work. It's just that if you want to control engine movement, it seems to make more sense to get to the root of the problem (the engine mounts).

just install it right that engine damper will clear the brake resevoir, i have the same style and so does my buddy in his integra...the only other affordable option for engine movement is either filled in torque mounts or es inserts...both of which cause more vibration than im willing to put up with.

reid you should know..
i think maybe those engine dampners are so popular over seas is because from what ive gathered many of the top honda tuner companies in japan strive so hard for the balance.
Stiff *** mounts are going to give more load to axles and other compnents, thus ruining the zen

Actually, what I've noticed is that a company can make one engine dampener and brackets to make the dampener fit in lots of cars. It's easy for them to package and market to a wide variety of vehicles, with relatively little R&D.

Neither - it was put on a 6th gen hatch.

Even the Spoon engine mounts didn't help in saving it from being bent the way it got. We elected to remove it altogether as it was dangerously close to the exposed camgears.

fits no problem with camgears covered....

The alignment should be almost parallel with the side of the valvecover... I just busted it by bending it with violent launches

I'm guessing the reason it bent was because its not fitted correctly, theyre designed to be fitted at the rear of the engine. Fitting it in that location possibly caused a twisting force on it when the engine rocked back/forth, when theyre fitted at the rear the engine applies lateral force on it. Mine has been on my car since i bought the car almost 3 years ago and its taken quite a few hard dumps/starts and its been fine, and i believe it is the reason my engine mounts are still in very good condition.

Well I'm pretty sure it is fitted and installed properly. It's just likely that it wasn't designed properly....so nuts on J's Racing or whoever it really was who thought this would be the ideal location for the 6th gen hatch

It wont clear the brake fluid resevoir. The brackets are exactly the same as these

Do you have any pics of yours or your buddies???

You are correct.

Silk Road has the standing patent on engine torque dampeners, and they in fact are the sole manufacturer of the dampeners as well.

I bought a nrg one for 30-40 bucks and it was exactly the same than the j's racing except for the brackets and stickers. (shrugs)

what i cant figure out is, if they make one for the driver side of the motor, why not make one for the passenger side as well?

Why don't I just make us all some for a discounted price? I work @ a machine shop, it wouldn't be hard..

You would have to purchase the rights from Silk Road seeing as they hold the patent for engine torque dampeners.

because it would cost twice as much and do the same thing as doubling the damping stiffness of the single one.
