help: 89 Accord carb idle problems
There are 3 adjustment screws on the manual-transmissioned 89 Accord LX carb that may control idle.
Passenger side appears to be choke-related. Screw faces car front.
Middle one has a plastic **** facing the firewall.
Drivers side is against a vacuum operated device. Screw faces front.
Problem: 1.Car Idles ok until it warms up, then it requires pumping of the gas pedal to keep it from stalling out/cutting off.
2. While coasting around a left turn, if it was idling ok, it wants to cut off.
Questions: Which of 3 screws control idle?
What do I check and/or replace to regain normal idle?
Any other thoughts on this?
Thanks in advance, folks.-Bob

the middle black **** that faces the firewall is the idle screw. Check for vacum leaks, hot air door diaphram, dist. advance diaphram, choke pull off test by pinching both vacum lines and the choke plate should pull back.
Fuel level should be visible in the sight glass when the engine is running.

also,, chk the PCV valve, make sure it is not leaking..
if it is ok,, chk the idle solenoid, make sure it is geting power to it and energizing
if idle solenoid is working properly,, remove it, blow carb cleaner into the carb passage, if you have access to it , blow compressed air into the passage as well.. put all together and retry it
there might be some dirt in the idle passage

I had the same problem earlier this year with my 89 accord. Initially I thought it was just that the idle rpm was a bit too low so the motor was cutting out, but trying to increase the idle rpm didn't help. Only after changing the PCV valve did the idle rpm go back to normal as well as the dissapearance of the motor cutting off.

Yeah and don't forget to buy a couple bottles of snake oil. LMAO
