Default Need of some help with what to tell a bodyshop that's trying to screw me.

Alright I went to a bodyshop to get my car painted and repaired for the accident on the right fender and front bumper. We walked around and checked out the car for any other flaws and he said he could get someone to fix all the dings, I said maybe i'll think about it.

He called me the next day and said he called the people up about the dings and they could have someone come and do paintless dent and ding repairs for the car for $700. I told him I didn't have money to do that yet and would come back when I did. He said OK.

Then now I talked to him and he said he forgot to call back the company that was supposed to do it back to tell them not to come. So they came in the morning before he got there and they were already almost done with my car. So he said they would do half off since they had already finished. I told him I didn't authorize any of that and HE AGREED. But yet he says to come down and take a look and we can go on from there. I said no I am not paying for that. He said well I don't know what to do, maybe we can set up some sort of payment plan. I said I didn't authorize it so I shouldn't have to pay. After that I basically just hung up the phone.

My question is what the fvck should I do or tell him? How if he threatens to keep my car until I pay for the repairs without having to go through a long dispute requiring the police or lawyers? I want my fvckin car back damnit!

UPDATE: MY CAR AS IT LOOKS
So he decided not to charge me for the ding repairs but did end up charging me $700 more for the repairs to the accident! ****! Don't even want to talk about it. Better day time pics soon. They did a wonderful job painting and taking out the dings but experience sucked and so did the owner! Fvck Speedway Collision on HWY 99.

if there is a repair order on the car which there should be he would have to have it oked by you which you didnt do so there for he dropped the ball and is at fault and should eat the dent removal bill and how many dents were in the car 700 buck is a ******* rip off anyways

i really think it's illegal to hold your car from you as hostage for payment, honestly, i would tell the police, i really think you'll get your car back, they can't hold you without your car, no way to get to and from work, i say tell the cops and let them help you out

you only owe him for what you authorized him to do and then take the car and if he wont take his mistake off the bill then you can get the cops involved

yea first off $700 is waaay too much for paintless dent removal, but that is not the point.

i would go in there and let him know that you mean business, or at least act like you do. tell him you would rather pay a lawyer $350 to help you out then pay to fix his mistake, blah blah blah. see where you get by standing your ground, then come back and let us know

basically what you want to do is make it such a big deal that in the end he would lose money having to deal with you. like others said get advise from the police. but every minute he spends dealing with you, and not getting your money, he is losing money. if he has half a brain at some point he will decide he fawked up and its not worth it.

good luck.

If you didnt authorize the repairs you DO NOT have to pay for them. Its up to the body shop to pay that $700(which probably only costs them $250), and give you your car back. You owe them nothing and they need to release your car to you

he's admitted to being at fault (forgetting to call the dent remover guy back). he's at fault, he should suck up the bill. BE FIRM, dont let him push you around.

if he doesn't agree, call the police, wait for them to come, explain the situation, then have the officer do a police report and then you can go from there...

keep us updated.

So is he eating the cost? or are you paying?
If he's going to eat the cost, there's no need for phone calls and prolonging this situation.. Everyone makes mistakes, and no one wants to eat a supposed $700 bill. But if he is eating the cost w/o making a fuss, i commend him for doing what he knows is right.

If you only authorized certain work and they went and did something else, you don't have to pay for it. If he threatens to hold your car, call the police. Him keeping your car is the same as him stealing it. They can NEVER keep your car. Even if they did work and you didn't pay. They have to sue you if they want their money. The Police will make him give you your car.
