Running too rich, MAP sensor the culprit but no CEL?
A little more detail:
I've been trying to fix my idle / fuel consumption demons for pretty much the entire summer and still can't get it quite right. Here's what I've done so far, it's a DOHC ZC:
Cleaned, tested EACV
Adjusted throttle cable
Cleaned TB
Checked vacuum lines, no leaks
All air out of coolant system
Cleaned up my grounds
Checked fuel pressure and FPR, both check out okay
Now, I've heard that the MAP sensor can affect fuel consumption as well, but the only diagnostics I've seen in my Haynes manual and on h-t are when there is a CEL. Is the MAP sensor the problem? Or anyone else have any suggestions? I really want this thing running right, it usually sits well at idle (~650 RPM) but will surge and stay at ~1100 periodically even with the engine at op. temp. I am still getting decent MPG (30) for a hwy/cty mix, but can definietly smell fuel coming from the exhaust. Sorry for the diatribe, hope someone can help.
OK, I forgot to test the fuel injectors, before somebody says that.

I'm running the PG7, and I'll have to just check the procedure in the manual. I'm just asking for advice b/c I don't have any CELs and the flowchart in the manual seems to be dependent on having CELs.
OK checked out MAP sensor and fuel injectors, all voltage / resistance checks out fine per the manual. I also noticed today that my idle was intermittently bouncing from 600-1100 RPMs, which would indicate a bad EACV, but I just cleaned it and it was fine for a while. Now one thing that concerns me is that there was voltage present between the blk/yel wire on the EACV and ground, which the manual says may be due to a bad ECU. Any suggestions?
