Default 3 Americans make the cut in the Red Bull Moto GP Academy tryout

Great mfn' news. Especially impressive considering none of the American boys had seen the track before, and one of them had only ridden a 125 a couple of days before he left for Spain [story here: http://roadracerx.com/article.php?article_id=116]!

??? What does your race have to do with it? If you were one of the top American racers from age 12-16 you would've gotten invited too.

it's more about money than race. if your parents can afford to support your racing from a young age, you have a chance.

that's kinda what I mean. How many asian parents let their kids race? And how many Vietnamese people (living in Illinois) have a lot of money. Not a lot!

That still has nothing to do with what country your family is from. I am sure there are just as many white/black/brown/etc people without a lot of money too.

Its really not even about being rich, at least with motorcycle racing. If you have a family that gets you into it and makes the sacrifices to support you from a young age, and you have the talent, you might have a shot at a career racing.

ahahahahahahah!!! LOLOLOL

pass the crack pipe over my way, would you?
You have to supply the kid with:
- a bike
- get the bike competitive - race prep
- presumably track days, racing schools
- travel all over the country to races, taking time off work
- safety gear every couple months, 'cause if they don't get wrecked, they get out-grown
- transportation for the bike - at least a pickup, more likely a trailer
- tires, brakes, spares, consumables
- hospital bills

Doesn't matter how you slice it, to get any kid/young adult to be nationally/internationally competitive in ANY sport costs cubic amounts of dough, and usually more so in any kind of motorsports.

edit: I would be curious to know these kids' families' yearly incomes.

There's a BIG difference between having enough money to support your kids with the parents making sacrifices, and being rich.

we'll just have to agree to disagree on that one then. ask me how much it is costing me to keep my 7-year old in PRE-junior-olympic gymnastics programs with only local competitions. The only equipment to buy is leotards...

I'm not sure I want to know... but if you gave up racing, and drove a beater, and such to help her be more successful... thats the kind of thing I'm getting at. I'm not saying it doesnt take a lot of money, but you dont have to be filthy rich either.

Because all white people can afford to and will let their kids race sportbikes. he is on more then just crack stop blaming other people. 99% of the people you see on a motorcycle will never race competitivly, not just non caucasians.

If I have a child, it will be on a bike from the day it can walk.
