Default My New 92 Civic Si

I drove the 14 hour round trip today to pick up my 1992 Si. MY friend drove me to Ohio in his 2000 Si, and we picked up the car. Hah, one Si leaves, two return. Gotta love it.

Hers a couple pictures of it now; second one shows the majority of whats wrong with it, seller is shipping me the front panel free of charge, gonna get the car repainted black

Drive home was great, car smells like febreeze and cigs cause 1st owner smoked, new seats will fix that hopefully Can't wait to start working on it, gotta fix it up and make it legal first, hah, of all things, the horn was the only thing that didn't really work..at all.

Gotta love what happened on the way back into St Louis:

Coming over the Mississippi River from Illinois into St Louis, I was getting tailed by a silver Monte Carlo SS, so I floored it to get her off my ***. She follows... next thing I know we're going like 115mph down highway 40, im praying for there to be no cops out at 11pm on Sunday night. My friend Steve and his Si are NOWHERE in sight. We did that for about 20seconds, then we slowed to about 70, she looked at me, grinned, and took off again. I chased her, but couldn't catch up, then she hit an exit ramp. God, what a wonderful way to break the car in.

nice little hatch. I always wanted a black SI but i have a red one...close enough.

And you live in st. louis? Im in st. louis right now on business. It rains here alot and people driving really really slow!! I miss my turbo hatch! She has been sitting in the garage for a month now.

I went to club velvet last nite..if you have ever been there...i felt totally out of place! Its really preppy. But i had a good time.

Anyways..congrads on the car.

I've been in STL for four years and I still haven't gotten used to the drivers. They have no idea what they're doing most of the time. Half the time, slower cars are in teh left lane.

Congrats of the car btw

Thanks for the kind words. Yea, I was gonna wait until winter before I bought a motor for it, gonna drop in a GSR one, Type R is too rich for my taste. But with some of the stuff that I think needs repairs on it, like alot of exhaust tuning, I might end up just doing that this summer. Like I said though, gotta paint the exterior and fix small rust spots first, its kinda dirty right now.

St Louis is THE crappiest town for traffic. You can't realy stretch your legs unless its late or you are in the county. If you're in the county, however, cops are everywhere.

I love the 1992-1995 Si hatchback. I've had 2 black ones - one mine, the other my fiancee's. Here's a pic of the 2 together:

If you're getting the car repainted you should consider Flamenco Black Pearl rather than the original Granada Black Pearl. I had my 1992 Si repainted Flamenco and it's a much nicer color. The Granada has too much purple/black cherry pearl in it IMO, and the Flamenco is good enough for the Type R, so why not your Civic, right?

I wish I had a picture showing the difference in colors in the light, but trust me the Flamenco is blacker and you still won't have to jam the car out either.

I'll post a better pic of just my old 1992 Si as soon as I find one.

I found some more pictures of my old Si. This will give you an idea of how your car might look repainted Flamenco Black Pearl and lowered on some 15'' wheels.

I've got more pics if you're interested - LOTS more. Engine bay, interior shots with 1997 black GS-R cloth seats, etc.

Congrats on your purchase - the car looks great and as soon as you fix that fender and paint it you'll be looking great!

I'm sure that there's a few things that will need some replacing or "freshening up" on, like the the following:

Windshield wipers. The arms tend to get super ashy and then the paint flakes off. I think i may have seen that on your pics. The remedy? Unbolt them, remove the "blade" portions and repaint the wiper arms with flat black paint. Cheap and easy.

The "belt" moldings on the doors get ashy and the paint flakes off of those too. These are the moldings that run along the bottom on the window. When new they have a rubberized black paint on them - when old they flake off and end up baing 1/2 black, 1/2 chrome looking. The fix? Either replace them (I'll list the part number) or repaint those too. You can either tape up everything around them or remove them and repaint them. You will need to strip off all the old coating first though.

The belt moldings are part numbers:

Left: 72450-SR3-003 $53.53 list price
Right: 72410-SR3-003 $53.53 list price

That's brand new from Honda.

If you have any questions let me know - I've seen a few hatches in my short time around Hondas

Thanks for the tips, I think I'll do that. I'm hoping the body shop will be able to paint alot of this stuff, I don't wanna spend anymore money than I have to getting this body looking great, or I won't be able to afford the motor at the end of summer.

Few problems I did actually notice. Blinker doesn't work, small crack in sunroof (doubt I'll have to replace it), horn, muffler makes HORRIBLE noise accelerating hard from 1st-3rd, anyone know what this might be. I was hoping it'd hold me out for the summer, but I might have to get a cheap $100 muffler soon. Gonna run it by a shop to get some of the minor things fixed today.

Could you reccomend any consoles I can get to replace the one in there now? I REALLY don't like the 5th gen console. Part of the dash is that bass-boat gray paint, its kinda ugly. I'll take pictures of some of the bad looking stuff this afternoon and post, thanks for the help!

"Part of the dash is bassboat grey..."

Really? If you mean the part around the climate controls and radio, then that is stock. All the 1992-1995 Civics had the grey trim regardless of whether the dash was black, grey, or blue.

If you want a different console, there is an O.E Honda accessory "audio console" that used to be available at the dealer. It connects the radio area all the way down to the shifter.

Others here have that console I'm sure, and if anyone reading this knows where pics are please post them. I'll post some if I find them

Nice car man. I hope to find one soon. Check this armrest out

Armrest Pic

If you don't have one they are nice to have. You can not get them from Honda anymore in Black. They still have plenty of the gray ones left, but black is gone. I work at a Honda Dealer in parts. There are a few dealers that might have them
instock, but they are hard to come buy new.

OOPs....Just Noticed that one is for a CRX, But Honda did make them for the 92-95 Hatches!!

$3800, hes buying all the parts that need to be replaced on the body and shipping them to me. I think I got a good deal, and the road trip alone with my friend Steve was worth it.

PS This is what part of the alphabet would look like if Q and R were eliminated.

The drive was 12 hours roundtrip, we did it in 14 including stops, lunch, and dinner. I was getting 50+ mpg avg on the way back. Had 160miles on the car with only a quarter tank gone. Honda r00lz.

EDIT: Here are some more pictures:

From the back, kinda dirty gonna take it to the wash later or tommorow.

And shes open

Driver side, here you can see the messed up trim and alot of small scratches. Guess when I sell the Integra, profit from that'll goto the paintjob...

Closer looked at the messed up fender and blinker thats barely attached...

Ugly dash and ghetto radio. Gotta paint dash, and I think I'm just gonna try and find a stock Si radio and buy the extra harness to attach that. Don't scream at me, I know I could get a decent aftermarket headunit for a little more money, but I like the stock look. Call me dumb...

And heres the dirty *** 1.6 definitely need to clean up in here....

Only thing I'm really worried about right now, oil coming out from under valve cover, gonna get it looked at on Wednesday.

S'it for now

don't be worried. all you need is a new valve cover gasket... if you are keeping the motor.

Thats what I was told by a friend, gonna go get it checked with everything else too. Its funny, cause my Integra does the SAME thing.

If I can fix that on the teg and get a new windshield, I can get 2k for it w00t.

IMO you should not paint the dash. You will regret it later, I'm sure.

The grey will grow on you I bet - it is stock and looks good IMO, but it is your car.

I'll get you the price of that broken "sash" molding on your driver side door.

And B Cruz is right - the valvecover gasket is just leaking. It is a cheap part that you can swap out with a 10mm ratchet.

While you're at it you should replace the sparkplug tube seals too. They are located in the valvecover on the under side once you remove the valvecover. These keep oil out of your sparkplug galleys. You may have oil in there - pull out your plug wires and look for oil on them - it's a common problem for these cars.

Keep us posted!

This is one of the parts he ordered and is replacing as part of the sale. Thanks alot, I really appreciate your help. I'll dive the car around for a few weeks, see if the dash really does grow on me. Actually, its just the dash trim piece, and looking around on ebay right now, I could buy a black trim piece and that'd look nice?
