i have a choice of turbo my ls or get a gsr swap what do you guys think? and would a turbo be dependable

personally i would say it depends on your power needs....if you want more power then turbo is obviously the way to go. but a turbo can be rough on an engine, especially if your engine is not perfect already. you can prolong the engine life by taking good care of it and not abusing it while the turbo is in there. a gsr swap is a good way to go if you have the money. it has good al around power and can be a good base for additional power if you desire it. you can turbo a gsr engine and if you swapped to a gsr then decided you wanted more out of it then you could always turbo that engine still. because of the higher compression in the gsr engine you won't be able to push it as far as the ls, but you'd still get good results. hope that helps...maybe try pokein your head around the forced induction forum and ask some of the guys there some questions and see if they can help you more. they know a lot more about the turbo area then i do.

 

okay okay okay but this has been covered soo many times and there are soo many variable

you said you cant push the gsr as far as the ls on boost due to the compression. WRONG, get a TUNE on a DYNO and you can get better numbers. OR go get lower compression pistons then get a tune. either way your going to need to tune the car if you put a turbo on it, and its not just about how much psi you have. you cant just slap on a turbo and expect 200-300 bhp.

so to the OP, its more about what you want.

in my opinion my stock gs-r is so easy to maintain and still fun.
