Adding Power door locks to an EG... need some opinions
I'm looking to add power door locks, power trunk lock, and mabye power windows to my EG hatch ... can anyone point me in the direction of a good kit? and mabye some tips?
TIA
TIA
for power locks a universal lock actuator would be good enough...
for the windows try and go oem with the acutators.. they sit inside the door, and allow you to make a nice and flush system...
if u get the ebay universal powerwindow kits, they don't look as nice..
for the switches of the pwindows u can mount them in the blank spots by your e-brake..
just becareful with the wiring around there.
----
trunk lock.. is actually a trunk pop... if you can get an 15lb pull popper actuator (normally used for shaved door kits) that could do the trick.
however, mounting that kit and making it work takes some creativity,
i tried, and i wasn't creative enough, and have an extra 15lb pull actuator sitting around doing nothing...
if u have a hatch, its a bit hard to make the trunk pop work, cause there aren't many places to mount the actuator... u might need a custom bracket, and a friend who can weld.. i did not have access to either
thats my 2 cents

There are many good door lock kits out there one of the best is a Spal... http://www.spal.com/default.ph...stems Any alarm can be connected to it, these are "central" locking systems, using "5 wire" actuators, your manual door lock switches, front doors, both sides become power door lock switches, as do the key switches on both front doors, [locking or unlocking one of them will lock/unlock both doors, all doors on a 4 door with the 4 door kit].
If you are looking just to get key-less entry with an alarm install then all you need is an actuator for each door and 2 SPDT relays, [relays only needed if alarm does not have them built in]... door lock actuators can be picked up at your local car audio/security shops for under $20 each and relays for under $5 each.
As for "power trunk lock" do you mean power trunk release, [trunk pop]?
Power window kit you can get from Spal also... http://www.spal.com/default.php?t=site&pgid=44
Although there are other power window kits on the market I would not recommend anything but the Spal kits, unlike power door lock kits and actuators that even "inexpensive" "no name" brands can do the job perfectly fine.
As for tips, it's the install of whatever you put in that will make the difference between a system that works properly and is dependable and one that gives you nothing but grief, and even though quality of the product is important, it has less to do with reliability then a proper install.

Hmm guess that idea's out
... the only reason i wanted it was because my main key doesn't work in the lock for whatever reason so no matter what i do i have to open my driver side door and pop the trunk from there ...

Any prices on those kits? How or where would I order those from? I want power locks with the remote button on my keychain with a good alarm system install in the near future.

trunk pop is cake on an eg tailgate. i used a harada dla-01 door lock actuator. dei also makes one identical to this. i mounted it and hooked the rod up to pull the oem rod in the same motion as the key moves it when turned. ground the according wire on the actuator and apply 12v on the other and your back glass will pop. also used this method on a customers del sol trunk, my wifes 95 ex trunk, and NUMEROUS cars and trucks( including old ones) with shaved door handles to open the doors. and i have NEVER had one come back not working. i absolutely hate and despise those damn trunk solenoids, and i refuse to use them. i wish i had a camera, i would take a pic of the inside of my tailgate cause all of my interior is out right now.

to you guys </TD></TR></TABLE> The Audiovox ones go for as little as $49.95, $200 - $300 for the Spal, both have inputs for alarms.
You can ger door lock actuators, [2 wire] for as little as $5 - $10 each and relays, [if you need them] for $3 - $10 each.
Trunk release solenoid, [kit] $25 - $50.
As for where, you will have to find a dealer, or you can take a chance... http://search.ebay.com/search/...gory0=

This was probaly already covered but i do not feel like reading through the previous post since i just got off work and im too lazy to read haha.
I prefer using dei products since i get them at work for a really good deal.
For door lock actuators just find some Dei 524N or 524T, these are your standard 2-wire actuators with a green and blue wire coming out from the bottom, they are both actuators pretty much identical not sure whats different, and look for a Dei part called the 451M this is a door lock relay its a little box with 6 wires coming out of it, 2 purples which become one with a inline fuse, a blue, green, white, and brown.
1. take your door apart and find a way to mount the actuators. ( i really cant tell you how to do this part but just mount the actuator where it will move the lock and unlocking mechanism)
2. Run the blue and green while into your car where the 451m and the alarm is.
3. connect the blue and green wires from your actuators into the blue and green wires from the 451m.
4. hook up the purple wire from the 451M to a constant power supply, and the white and brown into a ground ( metal ).
5. if you are using a DEi alarm they should have a small plug that a 3wire ribbon will plug into from the 451m. If not cut off the plug and hook up the red wire into a constant power, and the green into the alarms (-) lock output, and the blue into the alarms (-) negative unlock output.
5b. you can also hook the blue and green wire into a switch which will send a negative ground signal to either wire (blue for unlock, green for lock) and this will work as well.
Personally ive never done power windows so i cant be of much help
