Default Turbo almost got destoyed.........

Well i'm in a state of shock right now.....not only did the turbo on the hatch almost get destoryed but my wife informed me i'm going to be a daddy. :wtf:

Well heres how the turbo thing went down. I just bought a turbo eg hatch about a week ago. Well all was good and fine until about an hour ago.

I went to the gym and then to wal-mart for dog food and thats where the strange **** started happening....the turbo would not spool for anything.....i could hear it trying to suck the air in but no boost on the gauge and it wouldn't rev past 4k rpm......well i was perplexed to say the least (my first turbo car)

Limped it home and well I started getting worried.....called the guy i bought it from but he was in church....doh....so I go and start to investigate....all the charge piping looked good.....all the vaccum lines looked good......so far so good....well i get the idea to take off the air filter to see if the turbo was spinning.....and thats when the **** hit the fan....i'll let the pics explain :furious: :furious: :furious: :furious: :furious: :furious: :furious: :furious:

Looks like a cheap filter......and just came apart

I was thinking about putting one of those filters one, I decided it was too cheap and it would be better to keep the K&N on and let it rub. I am glad I did

wow your very lucky. the best part is the peice that came off (glued im sure) got sucked into the inlet perfectly flat and it doesnt look like it damaged any blades. dont be furious...drop to your knees and pray to christurbo, buy one of the FR christurbo shirts and praise his glory, preach to all you see w/ autozone filters that they are walking down a path of compressor wheel distruction.

Congrats on the new car and baby,it was a good thing you got the car before you found out you were going to be a daddy or it would have been off to the dealership to get a four door family car or a suv: been there, seriously though kids are great,my one year old is passing me tools, good luck

Same thing happened to me a few years ago. My buddy with a gt35r wasn't as lucky as we were though... his turbo was hungry and ate that little filter plug right up.

Wait, how did the cap part get THROUGH the filter part without shredding/messing up the filter? That's some serious suckage (pun intended).

Oh, and congrats on the baby too!

I can see the new n00b slogan...

"Its now SAFER to run w/o a filter!!!1"

Honestly, you always get what you pay for. That thing was probably made for $0.80 in China out of recycled tin cans and paper plates. And that's including the $0.70 shipping charges they paid to get it here.

Well the metal piece actually sits inside the filter not on the outside and its just glued in.......

as for it being a cheap filter yea i know it is and i would have never ever ever put this on there........the previous owner put it on and it almost cost me big time......no worries though

and thanks for all the congrats on the baby
