Default Nothing in the car works, won't start

So I go to start my car today and it doesnt start, fuel pump doesnt prime, fan doesnt go on. None of the electrical stuff works. Door light doesn't work, alarm doesnt work, power locks dont even work, no dash lights, etc. I dont have a radio in it but I bet that wouldnt work either...

It's like the car is dead. I washed it yesterday, could I have gotten water on something? I mean, this isnt normal, and washing it shouldnt make a diff. but thats all I can think of.

water + electricity = bad.

clean the terminals and check again.

if that doesnt work, get a jump, then check back.

Can you do us all a favor and try to jump the goddamned thing before you continue to complain about it not working? If there's something wrong with your car, we can help you. If you ran your battery down by leaving your lights on or something, jump it and move on with life.

This is not a difficult situation, but you seem intent on making it one by refusing to rule out the simplest of variables: does the battery work.

Check your terminal cables and see if they are still good. There is no reason why NO electrical components would be working if the batt/cables was still good.

Get a multimeter and see if battery is reading 12v.

i'm going to autozone to check prices on a multi-meter, i figure I should have one around anyway. Cables look fine, no corrosion or signs of burning anywhere.

So 30 minutes ago - i.e. 2 hours 01 minutes after you posted about your car trouble - the battery started your friend's truck? As in you jumped his dead-battery-having truck with the same battery that is mysteriously making no connection with the car it's attached to?

Or maybe not. Maybe the battery's dead now and you're assuming that since it worked a while ago it should work now. Well here's a news flash: everything works until it stops, sweetheart. It doesn't have to hold a parade or send a telegram or even so much as ask your permission.

Have you even tried jumping your car with another battery or a vehicle that you know has power? It still seems like you're wasting our time.

I don't understand that. We connected the battery that was in my car to his terminals and it started his truck. The battery goes back into my car and it did not start, therefore its not the ******* battery. I dont understand what you mean by him having a dead battery

You suggested it was a dead battery correct? Putting the battery into another car to see if it works is an easy way to test it right? What are you still bitching at?

He and the rest of us want you to try and jump start your car by hooking jumper cables up to your car and a car you KNOW works, ie. turns on under it's own power.

Also, check your grounds.

tighten your battery terminal connections very hard i had a simillar problem. A multimeter will allow you to diagnose any problem related to the electrical system

You weren't very clear in your timeframe or your methodology, so I was unsure as to what you were saying.

So you took the battery out of your car, you took HIS battery out, replaced his with yours and his truck started no problem? That's batshit crazy, dude. You have a wicked bad ground somewhere.

exactly what I did. So you think it could be a ground. I just dont see how this could happen driving home from the car wash. I will check the grounds tomorrow before school, I have replaced three with Sun ground wires, but all in the same places and tightened down.

I hate cars

Have you checked to see if you're getting current through both of your battery wires? It's not unheard of for them to fail once in a blue moon.

Arch - I havent had a chance to check the cables yet

and 95civic - why would I need to jump it if I've already proven that the battery works? It would be a waste of my time - all fuses are OK, those were the first things I checked
