Default kryptonite bicycle lock

for the meantime, i'm using a 5 foot kryptonite bicycle combination lock. i anchor it down using the front bike wheel and front car wheel. still need to put on my wheel locks. this is better than nothing right? i kept waking up in the middle of the night to every suspicous sound. now that i have that rinky dink lock on, i'm worried that a thief will actually put the effort into it just to amuse himself. i only have a little over a month before snow hits and i'm broke enough as it is, which explains why i did what i did.

update - expletive we are having an earthquake right now and my bike is inches from my car. if that **** falls over..

food for thought: http://www.almax-security-chai...e.php

can you put the chain through any other part of the bike other than the front wheel?

My friend takes half of his tail off and puts his chain around the frame.

yea i was thinkin the same. the front wheel is the easiest part of the bike to remove. try and wrap it through some frame or around through the forks or somethin.

What percentage of bike thieves actually use hydraulic bolt cutters? Otherwise, you'd be reasonably safe with a typical Kryptonite Fahgettaboutit type chain no?

i asked myself the same question. the "best" chains are sold overseas anyway

but a ny chain is next on my 'to buy' list.

wouldn't you need a pretty long chain? where would you store it when you're riding, under the rear seat?

that's just way too much of a hassle everyday to do before/after work.

you'd be lucky to put anything more than a toothbrush in a trunk. a backpack would fare far better.

it may be a hassle, but how much do you value your investment? (imo its a bit much too)

yea but then you can say don't even ride it to somewhere where you have to park your bike... so it goes in an endless circle of what you can do to protect your investment, just trying to make the best of it. i know you understand what i mean. just trying to work with what's given (not trying to spend insane amounts of money for a bike chain). I don't live in the ghettos, but you never know.

yeah i know what you mean. ive heard people say things like "well dont ride it out anywhere then", but imo thats the whole point of having a bike.

id invest in a scorpio.

bike security works the best in layers, just like cars. chains, alarms, lever/disc locks, covers, etc.

Agreed. I would tell you my layers of security, but I'd have to kill you .
I think when you're bike is relegated to "toy" status, like mine is, then it's not as much of a hassle to have layers upon layers of security.
