Default Tire Size??

I have 205/50 on some fat fives on my teg. Also the car is lowere on H&R Sport springs. Its time for some tires. I wasnt sure what size to go with, what guys do you think would be better and why? also if I put on 55, will the ride be better?
Also whats another good all season tire that has some good tread life? I have currently have Kumho Ecsta's and had Falken Ziex before that...any other good suggestions.

the correct size is 1 or 2, choice 3 is not the right size.........

Pick ONE of these:

1.)195/55/15
2.)205/50/15

No, you would be better off with the 195/55 because the sidewall is taller.

And, as I posted in the duplicate topic you also created:

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by nsxtasy &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">I would NOT get 205/55-15. That's too big for an Integra.

Advantages of 195/55-15:
- Speedometer/odometer will be more accurate (205/50 will be off by 1.6 percent)
- Slightly better traction on wet roads
- Taller sidewall, slightly more comfortable ride

Advantages of 205/50-15:
- More choices of tires
- Some tires are less expensive (others may not be, so check)
- Slightly better cornering

The performance differences are very slight. The tire availability and price differences may be significant, and the speedometer error is a nuisance. I would check prices and if the tires you want are available in 195/55 and not a whole lot more money, I would get 195/55; otherwise, I would get 205/50. But it's really not a big deal either way.

For a detailed description of the very best summer tires available in both these sizes, click here. My post was written for the ITR forum but it applies equally to any Integra with 15" wheels.</TD></TR></TABLE>

First, are you sure you want all-season tires? They're better in winter snow and frigid cold than summer tires, but even inexpensive summer tires will give you much better performance the rest of the year. Another approach is to get a second set of wheels (e.g. steelies) with winter tires on them, which means you have the best tires at all times. You can get all-seasons, just want to make sure you're aware of the downsides and alternatives.

Among all-season tires, the very best all-season tires are the Kumho Ecsta ASX, Pirelli PZero Nero M&S, and the Bridgestone Potenza RE960AS. The only one of these that comes in 15" sizes for an Integra is the Kumho Ecsta ASX, which is $60 for 195/55-15 and $54 for 205/50-15. If you get the ASX, don't forget to send in for your $40 rebate within 30 days of your purchase (which makes the after-rebate price $50 and $44).

The Kumho Ecsta ASX is way better than the Falken Ziex ZE-512 or the Kumho Ecsta AST. BTW, Kumho makes a lot of tires with the Ecsta name. Some of them are good (MX and SPT summer tires, ASX all-season), others are crap (712 and 711 summer tires, AST all-season).

I used to have 205/50 tires on my factory 15x6 wheels, but now I hold the opinion that 205 tires are too wide for 6" wheels. 195/55 would be the better choice. 205/50 is better suited for 15x6.5 or 15x7 wheels.

As for speedometer error, my speedometer was already off by a couple of mph at highway speeds even on 195/55 tires (using the stopwatch between mile markers test method and cruise control). The speedometer is not accurate to begin with so I wouldn't worry too much about that.

I use 195/55 for my street tires and winter tires, and 205/50 for my track tires, all on 15x6 wheels. No problems here, either way.

A lot of things can affect speedometer accuracy. Heck, just the difference between brand new tires and tires that are worn down to the treadwear indicator bars and ready for replacement is 2 percent. But when you use tires that are not the stock size, you are adding yet another source of error (in this case, 1.6 percent) into the equation. The difference from other factors affecting accuracy is, this one is within your control, so you have the choice of avoiding it entirely, or else being aware of it as one more factor in the mix.
