Default Ek weight crisis! which engine for autocross?

I have a 2000 lx sedan with a weight problem, and I was wondering which motor would be best pair it up with out of the b-series. I was looking at a b16b I am unsure whether it will be able to carry its own weight around or are there better oppinions?

I also do know that changing the motor in the car will put me in modified.

The engine swap will put you into Street Modified. Its a pretty fast, expensive class with lots of high dollar M3s, Evos, STIs and very well prepped Civics. That's fine if you only want to have fun with some extra power from a B series, but if you want a chance at winning, and are not prepared to spend a lot of money, I suggest you stay with the D series engine, and maybe go to F Street Prepared or STS.

I already did a rear disk brake conversion so I am already in street mod class, so that isn't a choice to just go with a D16.

May I suggest that a blown (supercharged/turbocharged) D series motor would serve you better than the added weight of a B series motor? B series setups are typically about 80-100 lbs heavier than comparable D series setups, and the reduced weight would help a lot more than the same/slightly better power of a B series.

If you're just in it for fun, fill your boots with a B series. There's no reason why you can't be competitive, but your chassis is probably a little on the porky side. Chris Travis from NY runs an EG hatch in SM with an ITR engine, and he is the most successful Civic driver/builder in Street Mod on the National level.

Yea blowers are great, but I am think of just using a B20Z with gsr tranny. The B20 should provide pleanty of tqr to push it around the track. What do you think?

Yes, they're called '88-95 Civics, or perhaps some non-Honda vehicle.

It seems as though you are trying to make something more competitive out of something that will never be competitive. That's a recipe for spending a lot of money and never getting any faster. Why learn a lesson in futility the hard way?

JMHO.

Remove the rear discs, and prepare it for FSP. Your car actually has the potential to be somewhat competitive there - or at least much moreso than in SM.

Yeah I totaly agree with you on the fact that it will never be fast, and if I was serious I wouldn't use a honda either(no offense intended to honda heads but it is a fact that RWD will always have the upper hand over FWD.). Right now I am just looking at learning more about my and while being able to drive it daily.
