Alpine 9835 crapped out on me today... :| :(
so my 9835 crapped out on me today... but I think it started yesterday I was playing around with it and had pressed the "mx" button and turned it on, well I usually keep it off because I don't liek the way it sounds with it on. but when I went to turn it off, it wouldn't... so I was like WTF, and everytime I pressed the "mx" button it would say "defeat on" never "defeat off".
So I got in my car this afternoon and was leaving my girlfriends house and she was talking to me so i put it on pause then drove off a few minutes later, I didn't take it off pause until after I was a little way down the road, and so I turned it up to the level I usually listen to it at (kinda loud) then hit the pause button to resume play, and it started for a split second then just cut off, so again I was like WTF, tried turning it back on, and nothing.
got home checked fuses, nothing blown so I pulled the HU out and decided that I was gonna change the wiring harness since I had an extra one and the old one was one that had to plugs, one for 92-95 and one for 88-91 civics (bought it at wally world) so I cut the wires solder them to the new harness, plug it in and bam! nothing... so now I'm lost, I checked everything with a voltmeter and everything was fine, I plugged in my original tape deck and it started so I'm guesing something in the cd player actually fucked up but, what should I do??

Did you check the fuse in the choke/fuse holder on the yellow constant power lead of the Alpine HU?
Also is the Alpines yellow constant power lead connected to the constant power lead in the OEM radio wiring harness?
In most Honda/Acuras that OEM constant power is fused by a 7.5A fuse it the under hood fuse box, [the fuse for the Alpine is 15A] what is the MM&Y of your car?
Your HU has a 4x26W RMS into 4 ohms amp in it and it takes all of that 15A to make that 104W of RMS power, you can't get that from the OEM constant.
Assuming the problem with the Alpine is low current, then when reinstalling the HU, run a fused 12ga or 10ga power wire directly from the batt. to behind the HU and connect the HU yellow to it, [just like you would power an off board amp] don't forget to cap off, the now unused, OEM constant.
You also said you "checked everything with a voltmeter" did you check the speaker leads for a short or a bad speaker? even a minor short in a speakers ground lead will trigger the Alpine HUs protection circuit and shut down the amp.

Do NOT replace any fuse with a bigger one, it is a 7.5A for a reason.
Just do as I suggest run the fused 12ga line directly from the batt., I would also, [if you have not already] install a metal back support, ["L" bracket] from the back of the HU to the oem rear support bracket, this will help beef up the ground for the HU, you will be amazed at the diff. in output and SQ from you HU when it gets the current it needs.

Sweet, thanks for the help I was thinking it blew and I was gonna have to try and find a new one... so far this is the best HU I've ever had... gonna do what you said this weekend and look at picking up an amp to get some better quality out of these speakers...

He never said go buy a amp. Look at what fcm wrote before you go spend some cash. Run a 12g wire from the battery to the headunit. This will help the amp in the radio produce more power for your speakers. It can not get enought current thru the factory harnness that it is wired to now. So it produces less power for your speakers.
I understand that but wont putting in a 4ch amp also help?? that's all I was saying..
thanks for the input

It never hurts to add wattage to a system, [up to a point] however if you have been running the system with the Alpines constant, [yellow] connected to the stock constant and the HUs ground is connected to the stock ground, with no other grounding of the HU, then you have not heard what that HU is capable of.
