b18b VS. b18a

can someone please tell me the difference between the 2, just the block. cause i baught a b18a block for my lsvtec and i wanna know if i made a big mistake

Both block are non vtec without a knock sensor, they are the same block and head

Not a mistake at all, especially since you won't be using the cylinder head. The B18A1 will be fine.
- '90-91 B18A1: pre-OBD, 130hp, 121 lb-ft
- '92-93 B18A1: OBD-1, 140hp, 126 lb-ft
- '94-95 B18B1: OBD-1, 142hp, 127 lb-ft
- '96-01 B18B1: OBD-2, 140hp, 124 lb-ft

most use a1 cause you can get them dirt cheap and they rebuild them anyway so you dont care about the condition...with the b18b you're talking usually around $500+ for good running motor,,for a1 you're talking around $50-$100 usually..but at some pick and pulls they just charge $100 for any 4 banger,,even if you can find a b16 or gsr
