Default Fuil filter

I have a 2001 honda accord V6 3.0 and got water in the tank = rust=lots of damage take to dealer and they tell me there is only a screen on the fuil pump that is to act like a filter. No other one in between tank and engine. So my question is why would Honda stop putting a real fuil filter on?

After some searching that screen is more complex than it seems, a can shaped filter that is also replacable..
