Shifting at the torque curve.
My dad use to race his heavily moded mini copper s at local SCCA events. He drives my R on ocation and says that shifting at about 7,500 to 8,000 is good enogh because that is where the torque curve and power curve ends, the 8,400 redline is convenient when racing on a track. Opinions please.
Shift at redline. Shifting below redline will begin the next gear at a lower RPM where less power/torque is being made, and may result in the engine falling below VTEC depending on where you shift at. Even though the power peaks below redline, the total area under the power curve is maximized by shifting right before fuel cut on a stock ITR.
it depends on the car. some cars, he is right and you want to look at the dyno to see where the torque curve goes. but on vtec cars, the horsepower change is so significant, that you want to keep the car on the high cam lobe the entire time.. so you should shift at redline to keep it there.
