Default Vtec Sound.

i have a b16a, converted to ODB1 in which i was using p30,
I changed,
Oil and filter,
ECU PR3 obd1,
Added a cold Intake system.

After that my Vtec sound is reduced, to atleat 50% i do hear vtec engage and every thing but the sound not as the same as it was Before, i dont think any thing except the ECu can do that.

Please post ur opinion about it,

Thanks,

The cold intake system? I know that the vtec noise is the induction sound when vtec comes in right?

does vtec engage earlier now? it might just be engaging lower in the rpm range and the change between hi and low might not be as pronounced.

Put the airbox, or what intake you were using before the cold air, my buddy changed from a short ram to cold air (Pretty sure that was the only change)and then the sound wasnt as profound.

Question: Why do you want vtec to sound all loud?

On my car, you can hear it, not as loud but it pulls noticably.

But than again Loud vtec is only for cool people

maybe the two ecus had different maps. One being more agressive timing when you switch to the vtec maps.

Hmm, everyone seems to be overlooking the oil and filter change...that could very well be teh JDM VTEC NOIZE THEIF! I'm very glad you were observant enough to mention the oil and filter change -- many people wouild carelessly overlook this, foolishly thinking "what do oil and oil filters have to do with 'The VTEC Sound', anyway?". Well, those people don't know ****. Here's the scoop:

It's quite possible that your B16, having come from the JDM motherland, had the very rare (outside of Japan, anyway) Honda JDM VTEC-Sound Enhancing Oil & Filter System (aka HJDMVTEC-SEO&FS). Try draining your fresh oil and pulling your new filter off, then putting your old used oil filter back on and pouring the used oil from the drain pan back into the engine. Be careful and use a big funnel.

It's not easy to get, but I *do* have some for sale. It won't be cheap, but I will sell you some for the right price. I take the extra precaution to pour the HJDMVTEC-SEO into normal, nondescript, orange AutoZone 10W30 quart oil containers, so as not to draw attention to it -- otherwise it would probably get stolen in transit by some jealous riceboy. The filter is disguised in a smilar fashion by swapping the guts of the filter into a cheap FRAM oil filter housing...I do such a good job that I promise that you'd *never* be able to tell just by looking at it.

Let me know if you are interested. I do ship worldwide and accept PayPal.

Well I actually have a question that has to do with this thread that may also help you out, is there anyway you can hook anything up to a volt meter to see if different charges are being put out with a different ecu..

The reason I ask is I also have a b16a but obd0, i dont feel a vtec nor here a vtec kicking in yet i throw no codes

What kind of exhaust system you are using, there is a very loud vtec noice. when it engage,

The thing is i have traded the P30 with PR3 coz I was running rich with it,
Ill ask him for it, if he give me the ecu to try out on this setup.

No this will not be a vtec switch, ill just install a relay in between vtec selenoid and ecu, the relay will trigger from the ecu, and give direct power from battery to selenoid,

the vtec will engage when ecu wants it to,

Let me know what do u think about this,

Thanks

but remember that ur exhoust valves actuate as well. this makes a big sound difference<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by Boosted Chemist &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">maybe the two ecus had different maps. I was looking at the timing, the pr3 have the 10 deg advance then p30.
Else they both have the same, except for the Vtec load Threshold,

Mbar in p30 is 754,754,609,604,609,609
mbar in pr3 is 774,743,342,342,342,342
Same as pr3 in P06.

Just want to ask what dose it mean, by vtec threashold,??

You need to remember that while you can activate the selenoid, the ecu adds extra fuel to compensate for vtec kicking in. for vtec switches.

Is your motor running strong? If so, don't worry about how your VTEC sounds. Worrying about how cool your motor sounds is lame.

Yeah, my DREAM of being in a sig was dashed. Sorry for the "homo" response.

I just thought it was funny of the dude to mention the fact that he changed the oil and filter as if that had anything at all to do with the VTEC sound. Good luck at your next gay bashing.
