Default easy question

Okay, I'm new to Hondas. I've been working on my own Ford Probe for awhile and have recently graduated into a 1997 Accord SE (2.2L non-VTEC). Since I'm not up on my Accord history, which generation Accord do I have? Right now I'm up around 70,000 miles and not looking for performance, but longetivity. I've heard the T-belts and the water pump change in these Accords are a bear. Any experiences?

Hello and welcome. You have a 5th gen accord. The T-Belt/Water pump is a pain in the ***, but do-able depending on what kind of automotive experience/tools you have.

My Honda is an automatic. Mostly my mother uses it to commute to and from work, but I am still tasked with maintaining it. We got it used with 26,000 and no major problems. Still using genuine Honda consumables -- plugs, air filter, oil filter, etc. Recently I switch from dino 5w30 to Pennzoil 5w30 Synthenic for a little extra protection. Should I still go 3,000 between changes or can I go to 5,000 or higher? As for the T-belt and pump, I have a friend who owns a Honda/Acura parts & service business, so I'll pay him to do it.

I am amazed I got a pair of responses within minutes of my first post. Looks like I'll be hanging around here often.

as far as the changes go, im sure you will get varying responses, but I go 3,000 between changes with synthetic.

i never go longer than 3000 even if you can go 5000 miles between changes...i just figure why worry about it and risk damage to my engine when it's not too much more expensive to just change it 2000 miles earlier...but that's just me!

Hey, where can I get a Honda (not Haynes) repair manual? Second, somebody told me awhile back that the fuel filter on my Accord is a lifetime-type. I haven't ever come across a filter that is lifetime. And, how do I get the code of the stock CD-player if I disconnect the battery?

Thanks in advance for all the answers to the lay-man questions I have.

1.) http://www.helminc.com/helm/homepage.asp
2.) Thats what they say, replacing them is quite the pain in the ***.
3.) Honda Dealer can get it for you. Prove that the car/stereo is yours.
